In what we plan to make an annual institution, we give you the first ever Tees Business Best Restaurant Awards. We asked our readers – the business leaders of Teesside – to name their favourite local restaurants. More than 80 different eateries received votes but our top 20 form a mouth-watering list to ensure you’ ll never go short of ideas on where to eat next.
20th | Santoro Yarm Long-standing restaurant and wine bar offering classic Italian cuisine at the heart of Yarm’ s busy High Street.
20th | 12 Harland Place Norton Restaurant that also features a bakery, delicatessen, patisserie and food shop.
20th | The Masham Hartburn Village Small characterful pub serving up succulent food in a relaxing atmosphere at the heart of Hartburn Village, run by the Eddy family for more than 20 years.
19th | The Cleveland Tontine Staddlebridge, Northallerton Historic hotel and restaurant, with food served within eclectic surroundings, including vaulted ceiling, stone fireplace and candlelit tables. Now run by Charles Tompkins.
18th | Akbars Middlesbrough Popular Linthorpe Road venue serving up authentic Indian cuisine including old school favourites and Lahori specials.
17th | Waterside Brasserie Middlesbrough Located within Middlesbrough College, the Waterside Brasserie offers a top quality menu at inexpensive prices, with all food prepared and served by the college’ s Catering and Hospitality students.
16th | The Golden Lion Osmotherley Set on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, the Golden Lion serves up international cuisine within an 18th Century stone-built village inn, also featuring a cosy bar and five rooms for those who’ d like to stay the night. Run by Peter McCoy, who for many years partnered his brother Eugene at the Tontine.
15th | The Kings Grill Saltburn The only East Cleveland restaurant to make our top 20, the Kings Grill is a Victorian-style restaurant serving a mixture of modern British and classical food.
14th | Chapters Stokesley Family-run venue on Stokesley High Street offering luxury dining within an awardwinning restaurant and more informal brasserie that sit alongside a 13-bedroom boutique hotel.
13th | Central Park Middlesbrough Popular Linthorpe Road restaurant that celebrated its 30th anniversary late last year, serving up old favourites in a modern space. Central Park was opened by husbandand-wife team Idris and Maggie Moullali in December 1985.
