As a newcomer to Teesside, it is fascinating for me to read about Middlesbrough Football Club’ s return to the Premier League – but also to see that other local organisations are competing at the very top of their game too.
Here at SABIC, we are excited about our Olefins Cracker Project which will secure the long-term future of our Teesside business, safeguarding thousands of local jobs including employees, contractors and our supply chain.
After several years of restructuring and downsizing, SABIC is now reinvesting to secure the long-term life of its Teesside assets. We are converting our Olefins plant to take shale gas from the United States, which will enable us to more cost-effectively produce the chemical building blocks for many everyday items.
In this issue, you can also read about our long-term commitment to RSPB Saltholme, close neighbours to our North Tees site. We’ re particularly proud of our many strong links with the local community but I think supplying enough fresh water to fill 100 Olympic-sized swimming pools on an annual basis has to be fairly unique.
WELCOME
FOREWORD by John Bruijnooge
How great it is to see so many examples of business booming on Teesside when you flick through the pages of the Summer edition of Tees Business.
USE TEES BUSINESS TO BOOST YOUR BUSINESS
Tees Business is a B2B magazine delivered FREE to the business communities of Teesside, covering Middlesbrough, Stockton, Yarm, Wynyard, Billingham, Redcar & Cleveland, Hartlepool and Stokesley.
Our website is designed to deliver the latest business news, while our high-quality magazine, with a readership of 15,000, is a fantastic new tool for Teesside businesses to market to other businesses.
Elsewhere in this issue of Tees Business, you can read about the latest news from the Wilton Centre, where SABIC base our own UK headquarters.
And congratulations to Tees Business for organising a very special charity fundraiser, CEO Sleepout, which inspired 60 local business people to sleep rough for the night in the name of making Teesside a fairer place to live and work. It’ s food for thought that such combined efforts can raise as much as £ 45,000 for charity.
From food for thought to thoughts of food. More congratulations are due to all the restaurants named in Teesside’ s top 20 in the exclusive poll among our business leaders, particularly to the Crathorne Arms who finished top of the food table!
We look forward to keeping you up-todate with progress on our exciting Cracker Project in the next issue of Tees Business in September by which time Middlesbrough will hopefully be enjoying a positive start to life back in the Premier League!
Up the Boro! John Bruijnooge, Teesside site director, SABIC
