FIND OUT WHY ACKLAM HALL IS A GRADE 1 LOCATION...
Ask any football fan, it’ s never nice to be at the bottom of the league.
It’ s a constant struggle, you’ re always looking up at those more fortunate than yourselves, and wishing you could close that gap and leapfrog someone else to put them at the bottom of the pile.
It’ s the same geographically, and no-one can argue that we have more than our fair share of problems in this neck of the woods. Each month, we look at the unemployment figures in our region, and while there are sometimes encouraging signs, more often than not we find ourselves in the lower reaches of the league tables.
Heaven knows, we’ ve been dealt some rough deals over the years. Coal mining, shipbuilding, steelworks. steelworks again. The list goes on.
The Northern Powerhouse was going to change all that. We’ re still waiting, they’ ve got the“ north” bit right but now we’ re battling an“ east / west” divide.
Speaking to people around the various networking events we go to, I find it hugely encouraging that we’ ve adopted something of a siege mentality approach. Of course, we would welcome any help from Westminster that will help businesses in the Tees Valley flourish.
WELCOME
FOREWORD by Darren Sutherland
Hi and welcome to the Spring 2017 issue of Tees Business.
USE TEES BUSINESS FOR YOUR MARKETING
Tees Business is a B2B magazine delivered FREE to the business communities of Teesside, covering Middlesbrough, Stockton, Yarm, Wynyard, Billingham, Redcar & Cleveland, Hartlepool and Stokesley.
But rather than sitting back feeling sorry for ourselves and waiting for that help to head up the A1, it’ s great to see businesses knuckling down and ploughing on after a difficult couple of years.
Look at some of the success stories on the pages within this publication. With the awards season on the horizon, you can see the talent and creativity we have on our doorstep by the various shortlists that have come out. It must be a tough job being on the judging panels, that’ s for sure!
At Utility Alliance, we’ ve enjoyed a fruitful start to the year. We’ ve moved into new, bigger premises at Hartlepool Marina, and our ongoing recruitment drive has created an additional 64 roles in the business at all levels. We now have 144 staff on the payroll – this time two years ago, there was six of us.
Going into our third year in operation, we’ ve got some exciting plans for further growth, and from what we hear on the grapevine, we’ re not the only ones.
It’ s been a positive start to 2017, not just for us but for the Tees Valley as a whole.
Hopefully as a region we can continue to edge up that league table in the coming months. Darren Sutherland Chief executive, Utility Alliance
Business.
