HALO’S £2,500 BOOST FROM
BUSINESSWOMEN AWARDS
A
ward-winning charity campaigner
Yasmin Khan has thanked those who
helped raise nearly £2,500 for the
Teesside-based Halo Project at the Tees
Businesswomen Awards.
Yasmin, who was the keynote speaker
at the awards attended by more than 440
people, is chief officer of the Middlesbrough
charity that’s dedicated to helping victims of
abuse including forced marriage and honour-
based violence.
Having won the Inspiring Others category
at the inaugural Tees Businesswomen
Awards in 2018, Yasmin was invited to talk
more about the challenges her charity is
facing at this year’s event and an envelope
collection among the Tees Business-
organised event’s attendees raised £2,422
for the Halo Project.
Yasmin said: “We are absolutely delighted
and so grateful to the generosity of those
who attended.
“Not only have we been given an
exceptional platform to break down the
barriers for women experiencing abuse
in the North-East, but we are immensely
grateful and humbled to have raised such an
outstanding amount.
“The proceeds will be extremely
beneficial at this time of year. We will be
able to provide emergency packs for people
fleeing violence and help to provide a safe
and comfortable surrounding for families.”
Tees Business co-editor Dave Allan, who
along with Martin Walker is a director of the
publication’s owners, Resolution Media &
Publishing, said: “Yasmin is a leading light
in the Tees region and her charity is carrying
out such outstanding and challenging work.
“The Halo Project is an absolute force for
good and we were proud to be associated
with and give a further voice to such an
important charity.”

Sunderland, Durham, Seaham, Peterlee,
Washington, Houghton-le-Spring and
Chester-le-Street areas, the first issue of
Wear Business is due for publication in
December, featuring Hays Travel boss (and
talk of the region) John Hays as its debut
cover star.
Wear Business has already won the
support of a number of big organisations
and businesses, including Sunderland City
Council, Great Annual Savings, Business

R
ockliffe Hall is proud to announce its
second annual Festival of Food which
will launch on February 1, 2020.
The inaugural event was such a success
that the eight-day festival will be even
bigger and better this time round.
The Rockliffe team are looking forward
to welcoming some of the North-East and
North Yorkshire’s top professional chefs and
culinary experts including Terry Laybourne
(21 Hospitality), Josh Overington (Le
Cochon Aveugle), Alex Nietosvuori (Hjem)
and Briony Williams (Great British Bake Off)
at a series of special lunches, afternoon
teas, dinners and workshops.
Among some really exciting events, Chef
Franck Pontais from Koppert Cress will be
on hand on Friday, February 7, to showcase
plant-based cooking at a vegan night, guest
chefs from the Cleveland Tontine, Middleton
Lodge and The Forge will present a Taste of
the North-East, while Frances Atkins (Yorke
Arms) and Ellie Richmond (Fox Hall Inn) will
offer a journey through culinary history and
the changing fashions of food.
The festival opens with an Artisan Food
Fair which will showcase delicious food
and drink from a wealth of suppliers and
producers and the festival will conclude
with a glamorous black tie gala dinner.
Being a chef, I love the whole festival. I
get really excited about meeting new food
producers and seeing how they use their
products at Rockliffe Hall.
The highlight for me will be working with
the guest chefs and I’m very much looking
forward to linking up with Koppert Cress to
showcase plant-based cooking at our Vegan
night.
It will be a real eye opener for anyone
who sees vegan food as boring. Think
again!
Details of all the events on offer
throughout the Festival of Food week can
