T eesside Hospice is calling on local companies to support them as corporate partners “to protect the long-term security” of the Middlesbrough- based hospice. Having appointed Anne Cooling as head of corporate development, the hospice is on a mission to develop long-term, engaging and effective corporate partnerships with companies across the Tees Valley and beyond. Chief executive David Smith said: “The need for fundraising is ever greater, ever more urgent. For some charities, it will be impossible to meet the growing need to fund their work without the support of the community. “Now more than ever, Teesside Hospice is seeking backing from the corporate sector and the business community.” Anne, who has many years’ experience of corporate partnerships, is looking to help secure the long-term financial security of local patients and their families. “We have an opportunity here to make a real difference to the Teesside community by encouraging companies to consider how a charity partnership can benefit their company and employees,” said Anne. “Teesside Hospice is engaging with business leaders and decision-makers throughout the Tees Valley to raise awareness within the corporate sector. The aspiration is to ensure the long-term security of the hospice and ultimately to protect the end-of-life care provision for the local community.” Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen and NEECC chief executive James Ramsbotham have both offered their support to help Teesside Hospice create partnerships with the business sector, while Crathorne Hall and Rockliffe Hall are fully sponsoring lunch receptions that local business leaders will be invited to attend. Located on the ground floor of 1 Centre Square, which will be home to 720 Middlesbrough Council staff when they relocate from the Civic Centre later this year, the unit extends to 4,500 sq ft with potential for subdivision and a generous external seating area opening onto Centre Square opposite MIMA (Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art). The TTE Technical Institute has secured a new project with international energy and water company TAQA to provide technical training to Middle East-based technicians. A group of 13 technicians from TAQA’s Atrush Block oil production facility in the Kurdistan region of Iraq are spending three months in the UK at TTE’s fully-equipped training centre in Middlesbrough to develop practical engineering competencies to achieve internationally-recognised qualifications. The project is also supporting TAQA’s development of women technicians in the Kurdistan region, with one member of the group a female process technician. FACTORIES OF THE FUTURE TAKE SHAPE AWARD SUCCESS FOR APPRENTICE Intelect’s electrical apprentice Alex Mason has been named the North East Electrical Apprentice of the Year by training provider JTL. Alex, who is one of 30 apprentices currently employed by Intelect, fought off fierce competition from other final year apprentices in the region, after being nominated by his JTL training officer, Paul Moorcock. Since starting his apprenticeship in 2013, Alex has made significant progress, completing his HNC in Electrical Engineering, alongside completing the final year of his apprenticeship. Architects are shaping the factories of the future on the multi-million-pound park that is set to bring hundreds of jobs to the Tees Valley. Around 180,000 sq ft of factory space is being designed specifically for the tenants of phase one of TeesAMP advanced manufacturing park. Logic Architecture have been appointed to design the 14 buildings in a contract which has led to the creation of one new job, with the prospect of more to follow.
