Serving the Teesside Business Community | 29 Smiles - Paul Card (fourth left) presents Tees Business line-up Team Resolution with their quiz-winner prizes. DO THE MATHS Finance recruiters are the charity kings T he numbers all added up for a Tees firm that specialises in helping businesses find high-quality finance and accountancy staff when Paul Card Recruitment helped raise nearly £4,000 for local worthy causes. Incredibly, the Wynyard-based recruitment business has now raised £9,000 over the past three years by organising an annual general knowledge quiz to raise funds for charity Teesside Philanthropic Foundation. Paul Card Recruitment’s clients range from small owner-managed companies to large corporates including Venator, Utility Alliance, Jacksons Law Firm and Sage. Despite boasting an impressive list of clients across the North East and beyond, Paul insists the firm is Teesside through- and-through – and is incredibly proud to support their own communities. “We’re a proud Teesside-based company with staff who all live locally,” he said. “Our heart is in Teesside, and I have an ongoing commitment to give a percentage of our profits to local worthy causes. “For me, none come more worthy than the Philanthropic Foundation, which does such incredible work on Teesside. “Organising the quiz allows us to raise some much-needed funds for the charity to share among the most vulnerable and disadvantaged Teessiders. We’re proud to do that and thrilled to have raised £9,000 since 2017. But, for me, it’s about more than just writing a cheque. “It gives us an opportunity to help shine a light on their fantastic work. The foundation really strikes a chord with us as the money they raise stays right here on Teesside and reaches out to smaller community groups that would otherwise be unable to access funds such as this.” Paul recalled attending a Philanthropic Foundation event where a local head teacher spoke of the poverty suffered by some of the families attending her school. “What resonated with me was the head teacher talking about parents in poverty and how the foundation had helped the school to purchase beds for the children. The kids were now able to sleep at night and their academic achievements and general wellbeing had dramatically improved. It’s frightening to think there are such levels of social deprivation on our doorstep here on Teesside.” Giving back - Paul Card. Among the local businesses represented at the charity quiz at the Riverside Stadium were Tees Business, Middlesbrough FC, Endeavour Partnership, RMB Automotive, Erimus Insurance Brokers, Baldwins, Vitality Dental, Mandale, Square One Law, Henderson Insurance Brokers, Anderson Barrowcliff, Durata UK, Careys Personal Credit and Paul Card Recruitment themselves. The organisers were grateful for match-funding from Barclays Middlesbrough. Auction donors included Racz Group, Wynyard Hall, University of Sunderland, Middlesbrough FC and Baird Group, while raffle prizes were donated by Yarm Studio, Racz Group, ARC Arts Centre, The Copper House, Sanction Gin, Fiona Erskine, Wynyard Golf Club, Sweet William Floral Design and Flowerhouse.
