And it’s not all meat! 9th The Fork in the Road, Middlesbrough Teesside’s very own charity restaurant, much of the good work in employing former prisoners and the long-term unemployed is funded via sleepouts by the region’s business community – including many Tees Business readers. With super tasty food and welcoming staff, The Fork has earned a reputation as the perfect place for a business lunch, family meal or romantic dining. 8th Cena, Yarm Translated from Italian, Cena simply means dinner, supper or evening meal – and this restaurant is the perfect venue to enjoy any one of those. A stunning little restaurant, Cena also offers diners vegetarian and vegan options. 7th Cafe Lilli – Norton Norton’s growing restaurant offering really began with Café Lilli. The eatery was at the forefront as a ground-breaking resident to Norton High Street many years ago. The restaurant not only offers fantastic food but also has live music with its regular appearances by local musicians adding to bustling and vibrant buzz. Another ever- present in our top 10 since we began our annual poll in 2016. 6th Crathorne Arms, Crathorne Winners in 2016 and never out of our top 10 since. There’s a truly welcoming country pub feel at the Crathorne Arms, which boasts a sensational and varied menu, with the food freshly prepared from kitchen to plate. Barbara and Eugene McCoy also pride themselves in adding an extra energy to the pub by ‘keeping it live’ with a whole host of music from soul and blues to jazz from top musicians to entertain and delight customers with events throughout the year. 5th The Curing House, Middlesbrough The Curing House customers continue to give this charming and contemporary restaurant rave reviews. Located in the heart of Middlesbrough’s trendy Bedford Street regeneration zone, this small but perfectly formed eatery is famed for its unique charcuterie boards as well as a deceptively varied menu including fish. Diners can enjoy brunch, dinner and Sunday lunch as well as a takeaway service. 4th The Brierley, Acklam Hall, Middlesbrough Whether you’re looking for an indulgent evening dining experience, afternoon tea, a wedding, conference or party venue, Acklam Hall has it all. This 300-year-old Grade I Listed building was sympathetically restored in 2016, giving visitors the feeling of stepping into a bygone world. It continues to grow in popularity and offers visitors an impressive menu in its lavish surroundings. 3rd The Bay Horse, Hurworth Voted number one by our readers last year, The Bay Horse gastro pub dates from around 1400 and continues to boast top quality food using only the finest of ingredients. This elegant eatery has retained its traditional charm. It’s a first for food at the Bay Horse where diners are never disappointed with the choice and quality of fare. 2nd Muse, Yarm A model of consistent excellence. First in 2017 and never out of our top two since our first poll, this, trendy, vibrant, continental style, café bar on Yarm High Street retained its runner-up spot. Never losing its appeal, it continues to be one of Yarm’s most popular eating venues. Muse describes itself as a modern European restaurant, using seasonal ingredients which are carefully sourced to offer a range of rustic dishes to tempt its diners. One of three restaurants in our top 10 for a third successive year, all owned by experienced duo Jonathan Hall and Marcus Bennett. 1st Chadwicks Inn, Maltby Our hearty congratulations go to Chadwicks Inn as this year’s number one! This already award-winning gastro pub gains further recognition as the top choice of the region’s business leaders, moving up sharply from last year’s sixth. Chadwicks, a truly British pub, is situated in the village of Maltby, on the edge of the North York Moors, and epitomises a great dining experience. Dating from the 19th century, Chadwicks offers the winning combination of a warm welcome, attentive staff and delicious food. Its cosy ambience attracts customers to return time and time again. As a well patronised pub today, history highlights how Chadwicks was also frequented by Spitfire pilots before their missions.
