MAYOR’S PRAISE FOR
PLASTIC-FREE CHIPPY
T
ees Valley mayor Ben Houchen has praised
an environmentally-friendly Redcar chippy
after they celebrated moves towards going
plastic-free on National Fish ‘n’ Chips Day.
Mayor Houchen praised Oliver’s Fish and Chips
restaurant and takeaway that’s gone almost
plastic-free while achieving a fifth successive year
on TripAdvisor’s prestigious Hall of Fame.
Family-owned Oliver’s no longer uses plastic
straws or plastic bags within their 64-seat
restaurant or next door takeaway, while they’ve
introduced wooden stirrers, knives and forks, and
recycling bins are now in place on both premises.
Oliver’s was also the first Teesside fish ‘n’ chip
restaurant/takeaway to receive certification from
the Marine Stewardship Council – an ecolabel
representing the strongest independent guarantee
that fish is from healthy stocks, caught with
minimal damage to the marine environment.
Mayor Houchen said: “Fish ‘n’ chips are a
national institution and some of the best in the
country can be found in Redcar.
“National Fish ‘n’ Chips Day is not just a
celebration of this heritage, it’s also a celebration
of the thousands of small independent fish ‘n’ chip
restaurants and takeaways across Teesside.
“The fact that Michael and Helen have been able
to keep Oliver’s in the TripAdvisor’s Hall of Fame
for five successive years is testament to their
hardwork and dedication and I congratulate them
on everything they have achieved.”
The Bath Street eatery – which serves up
44,000 servings of chips per year, amounting to
1.7 million chips – is owned by husband and wife
team Michael and Helen Roberts, who named the
thriving business after their son, Oliver.

purposes.
James also conducts land
surveys which provide up to
date and detailed information
about an area of land such as
geographic terrain and distance
measurements.
Animmersion has continued its
relationship with Sirius Minerals with
the delivery of a new prestigious project
to visualise the installation of the first
1,800-tonne tunnel boring machine
(TBM) that will be used to construct a 23-
mile mineral transportation tunnel from
Wilton to Whitby.
The Middlesbrough-based digital
services team has been working with
Sirius Minerals for the past 12 months,
at key times during the development,
to create accurate 3D animations of the
engineering processes and infrastructure
of the mulit-billion-pound project to build
the UK’s first deep mine in 40 years.
The company uses the animations
to educate and inform the public and
investors about the unique engineering
challenges, solutions, progress and
future plans of the project.
