Marketing agency pays tribute to Ali Brownlee A Tees marketing agency is paying tribute to Voice of the Boro Alastair Brownlee as it produces the official running shirt and commemorative medal for a popular Middlesbrough fun run for a sixth successive year. The Ali Brownlee Riverside Run’s commemorative T-shirt and medal has been designed and produced by Hartlepool-based marketing and branding agency, Emmerson Marketing. Named in memory of former Boro commentator Alastair Brownlee, the 5k run takes in a route from Middlesbrough Football Club’s Riverside Stadium, Middlesbrough College, the former home of the town’s founding fathers Henry Bolckow and John Vaughn, the iconic Transporter Bridge and back to the Riverside for a lap around the hallowed turf to the finish line. Organised by Everyone Active, Middlesbrough Council’s flagship sports event attracts around 3,000 runners of all shapes, sizes, ages and fitness levels. Emmerson Marketing’s clients include Cleveland Centre, Middlesbrough FC, Hodgson’s Fish, Extol Multi-Academy Trust, Amacus Innovative Training and charities MFC Foundation, Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice and Daisy Chain. £1M INVESTMENT AT HARTLEPOOL SITE Hartlepool-based expanded metal mesh pioneer, the Expanded Metal Company, has announced that it is to benefit from major investment totalling up to £1m over 2018. The investment programme will include the upgrading of buildings on the company’s 25,000 sq m site in Hartlepool, refurbishing specialist manufacturing equipment, acquiring new machinery and replacing existing lighting with more energy-efficient LED lighting systems. The work is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Seymour named Hartlepool Business of the Year Seymour Civil Engineering kicked off its 40th anniversary celebrations in style after stealing the night at this year’s Hartlepool Business Awards. The team, who attended the glittering awards ceremony at the Hartlepool Borough Hall, celebrated a double award win, picking up the Investment in Training award, closely followed by the diamond of the night, being named the Overall Business of the Year. Hartlepool Sixth Form College is to launch a Digital Academy ready for September 2018. The new academy will teach young people a range of digital skills to support economic growth in this sector, in line with the Tees Valley key economic priorities. “We are delighted to be launching a new Digital Academy for the young people of Hartlepool and beyond, to support in developing digital talent for the future,” said the college’s head Mark Hughes (pictured). Aspiring chartered surveyors on career path Two aspiring quantity surveyors are on the road to their chosen career thanks to a unique apprenticeship scheme developed by an expanding Hartlepool practice. Ryan Dodds, aged 23, from Darlington, and 27-year-old Josh Brown, from Middlesbrough, are now members of the fast-growing team at chartered surveyors Solomons Europe, based at UK Steel Enterprise’s Innovation Centre on the Queens Meadow Business Park in Hartlepool. They are the first two North-East candidates to win places on the company’s Accelerated Quantity Surveying Pathway (AQSP).
