Serving the Teesside Business Community | 13 /NEWS /OPINION Time to give women a platform I Up for a cup - the Chadwicks team try out their new coffee blend. Chadwicks’ diners treated to unique coffee blend D iners at Teesside’s most decorated restaurant can now treat themselves to a unique blend of coffee designed especially for them. North Yorkshire coffee roasters Rounton helped the management and staff at Chadwicks Inn Maltby choose their own blend which is now being served to customers. The Chadwicks Blend is a chocolatey espresso put together exclusively for Chadwicks Inn using the finest coffee beans which are fully traceable and sustainably sourced. Chadwicks’ joint-owner Helen Gill said: “We’ve been sourcing our coffee from Rounton for a long time and through a conversation they suggested we come up with our own blend. “We went for a cupping session at their premises in Northallerton – which is just like wine tasting but for a coffee – and they then came back with some samples which we were able to test. “We wanted to have something quite unique, and while you’re always tempted to go for something you personally like, you have to choose something which you know is going to be popular with customers. “We’re really happy with the end result and we’re already getting a lot of positive feedback.” Rounton staff have also spent time with the team at Chadwicks, showing them how to make the best coffee. Helen added: “Our restaurant manager Luke Conroy has had some barista sessions with Rounton so he’s our in-house expert now. “But the majority of our staff have also had training sessions on how to make the best cup of coffee every time, by always making them with freshly-ground beans.” Chadwicks were celebrating again after retaining a prestigious Michelin Bib Gourmand award for a third successive year recently. The restaurant is again the region’s only eatery to receive the much sought-after accolade, exclusive to Michelin Guide-listed restaurants offering exceptionally good food at moderate prices. There are hundreds of women out there running really good businesses. For girls at school, for young women going through college, they need to see those role models, particularly where industries are traditionally male-dominated, and that there are women succeeding. They need to see those role models doing top jobs, and that it’s a possibility for them, to raise their aspirations and give them the ambition to see that they wouldn’t necessarily be trail-blazing alone in an industry – that they could have women mentoring them and supporting them and following their footsteps. The idea of a business awards solely for women is maybe a bit controversial, and not something that everyone agrees with, and I’ve struggled with it a little myself, if I’m honest. But overall, on balance, I think it’s the right thing to do, to give women a platform and make sure everyone can see the good work they’re doing on Teesside. Hopefully, the Tees Businesswomen Awards event in November will help us do that. I’m very much looking forward to this event, and I’m excited about the fact it will help us unearth some of the high-achieving, successful businesswomen we have out there who perhaps aren’t getting the limelight they deserve at the moment. Sharon Lane General manager, Tees Components Tees Businesswomen Awards Tees Business will host the first-ever Tees Businesswomen Awards event at Wynyard Hall on November 8.
