Hundreds attend successful
Middlesbrough Jobs Fair
ore than a thousand people
attended a successful Jobs Fair in
Middlesbrough.
Around 70 employers and training
providers gathered for the event in the
spectacular surroundings of the newly-
restored and refurbished Middlesbrough
Town Hall.
Almost 700 positions were up for grabs
for job-seekers who attended the fair, which
was hosted by Middlesbrough Council in
partnership with Jobcentre Plus, the National
Careers Service, Middlesbrough College and
Middlesbrough Community Learning.
Other key agencies involved included
Teesside University, DWP and the National
Careers Service, while firms showcasing
their career opportunities included
Sirius Minerals, Bowmer and Kirkland,
Middlesbrough FC, Katmex, Cleveland Cable,
First Source Solutions, Mabo Media and
Arriva Northern Rail.
A Digital Showcase also put the spotlight
on some of the Tees region’s up-and-coming
digital businesses specialising in gaming, VR

and digital technology.
The council’s investment and growth
manager Debbie Ingoldsby told Tees
Business: “One of the key things for us is
making sure we’re bringing the companies
into Middlesbrough and furthering that
economic development to boost the town.
“There’s a massive amount of regeneration
going on in Middlesbrough at the moment.
“We have to make sure local people are
being connected with those opportunities,
and that they have the right skills to do them,
to make sure the skills are there and that
local residents get the opportunity to link into
the jobs that are available now and coming
up in the future.”
About 680 permanent, temporary and
apprenticeship vacancies across sectors
as diverse as technology, construction,
engineering and leisure were available
during the Jobs Fair as employers welcomed
job-seekers to stands in the Town Hall’s
Crypt, Main Hall and Old Fire Station, all fully
upgraded as part of a recently completed
£7.7m Heritage Lottery Fund-backed project.
FLOCK TO THE NUTHATCH
he Nuthatch has launched a series of
new packages for groups and occasions
at its cocktail venues in Middlesbrough
and Stockton.
The packages offer a range of services
from entertainment to catering for those
wanting a gathering with a difference for up
to 50 guests.
Matt Dorling, general manager at The
Nuthatch in Stockton, said: “We cater a lot
for businesses and private hire parties but
often people aren’t sure exactly what they
would like.
“We’ve launched ‘flock’ packages which
offer a range of drinks packages including
some of our amazing cocktails alongside food
platters from our Stockton restaurant, Finkle
& Green, while we also have great links to
entertainers, photographers and live music
artists.”
Since opening in 2016, The Nuthatch in
Middlesbrough has established itself as
the town’s premium cocktail bar, with its
signature cocktails becoming local favourites.
Opened later the same year, The Nuthatch
in Stockton is located in the burgeoning
Cultural Quarter.

on the rise and unemployment down,
said chief secretary to the Treasury, Liz
Truss, after spending a day with Tees
Valley mayor Ben Houchen visiting local
businesses to see what the region has
to offer.
The number two at the Treasury
kicked the day off at Fusion Hive
in Stockton before visiting Tees
Components in North Skelton,
the South Tees Development
Corporation site in Redcar and finally
Middlesbrough’s Boho One to meet
digital leaders Animmersion and Double
Eleven.
P&O CAPACITY LIFT
AT TEESPORT
P&O Ferries has revealed it plans to
lift capacity on its Zeebrugge-Teesport
route by almost 25% in order to create
a gateway to Scotland via the North-
Eastern port.
The integrated ferry and logistics
company currently carries more than
100,000 freight units a year to Teesport
from its continental hub at Zeebrugge.
Customers will benefit from P&O
Ferries’ plans to increase the capacity
of its ships combined with the
introduction by PD Ports of a new rail
service to Mossend in Scotland.
