Maverick’s Sports Bar Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough Dubbed the new home of live sport in Middlesbrough when it opened at the end of last year, the American- style sports bar on Linthorpe Road was inspired by owner Mike Hawkins’ trip to New York. Sherlock’s Baker Street, Middlesbrough Featuring a range of real ales, ciders, wines and spirits, Sherlock’s is one of several quirky pubs and micro bars to have opened in the Baker Street/Bedford Street regeneneration zone over the past couple of years. Co-owner Shaun also owns Middlesbrough pubs, The Star, O’Connell’s and The Dubliners. Whether you’re in Stockton or Middlesbrough, you can’t go far wrong with two Nuthatch bars on Teesside. The Nuthatch on Bedford Street, Middlesbrough, is popular with those seeking a few after-dinner drinks or cocktails, having enjoyed the food at one of the array of nearby restaurants including The Curing House, The Fork in the Road, Bistrot Pierre, Barbarossa, Turtle Bay, The Smeltery and Acropolis. The past few years have seen a steady stream of bars crop up in the immediate area too, including Sherlock’s, The Slater’s Pick, Twisted Lip, The Bottled Note, Devil’s Advocate, The Dovecot and The Chairman. Nuthatch owner Simon Hatfield says: “We see a whole array of customers. We’ve often welcomed parties of overseas investors impressed by our range of whiskies and lawyers entertaining clients or attending our cocktail-making classes or spirit and wine tasting sessions. “I don’t think people like doing business in a boardroom any longer - it’s far better done over an Old Fashioned or a Dry Martini.” Thirsty Souls Prince Regent Street, Stockton Do you ever get tired of fighting your way to the bar?
