FOREWORD by Dave Allan
When we launched Tees Business magazine at the start of 2015,
celebrating and promoting a local business scene that was too often
ignored by the wider business press was one of our key aims. Two of
the features in this issue are a perfect fit for that initial vision.
T
he results of our second annual poll
asking our readers to vote for Teesside’s
Most Inspiring Businesspeople make
fascinating reading. Boro chairman Steve
Gibson was a runaway winner this time last
year – but this time around the achievements
of another popular but not so widely lauded
local business leader have been recognised.
It’s only right to sing the praises of this
year’s winner, Bill Scott, and on our news
pages you can read more about the way he’s
helping his Tees company, Wilton Engineering,
bounce back from the brink with exciting
moves into the offshore wind sector that
promise to have a knock-on positive impact on
many other Teesside businesses.
Another feature that celebrates Teesside’s
ability to keep on overcoming adversity
is called The Export Experts, which takes
a look at the incredible range of products
local companies are exporting to an array of
countries around the globe.
As publishers of Tees Business and its sister
magazine, Tees Life, Resolution Media and

Publishing – the company I co-own with Martin
Walker – plans to go on shouting from the
rooftops about our fantastic local businesses
and people.
Our region is too often overlooked and rarely
receives the plaudits it deserves, but we’re
determined to reverse that trend. I hope you’ll
agree, as you flick through the pages of our
Autumn issue, that we’re successfully banging
the drum for our amazing region.
PS Please consider doing something
extraordinary and joining us in November’s
big fundraiser, CEO Sleepout, on the Victorian
Street at Preston Park Museum in Eaglescliffe.
Last year nearly 60 business leaders took part
in this event with us, raising £45,000 in the
fight against local poverty and the effects of
homelessness. This year we want to dwarf that
figure, so we need more business owners,
directors and senior executives like you to sign
up. There are more details on page 61.
