A
former bank manager’ s varied route into recruitment has made him the perfect fit for Achieve Professionals’ finance desk.
Former bank manager turned recruiter Charlie Hill has joined the accountancy and finance division at Achieve Professionals, supporting businesses with recruitment across London, the North-East and globally. And while his route into recruitment is anything but conventional, it’ s exactly that varied background, including banking, travel and hands-on recruitment experience, that makes him such a valuable addition to the company’ s finance desk.
Having studied marketing management at the University of Southampton, Charlie joined a bank as a cashier. After five promotions in under two years, Charlie became a bank manager in London, aged just 23.
A year later, he was promoted again into a flagship branch in Essex – the second busiest branch in the country.
After eight years building a career in banking, Charlie decided to step away and travel solo across Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Nearly two years later, with Thailand standing out as his favourite stop along the way, he returned to the UK, ready for a new chapter.
Although the move into recruitment
was a career change, it wasn’ t a complete change of direction. During his time at the bank, Charlie had always enjoyed the parts of the role that involved recruitment, such as interviewing candidates and running assessment days. Moving into recruitment gave him the chance to build his career around those aspects.
He started out recruiting accountants into accountancy practices across the South- East at a firm in Essex before moving back to London to focus on recruitment within financial services accountancy.
Now, at Achieve Professionals, Charlie has a role that lets him bring together everything he’ s learned – from his banking background and commercial acumen to his genuine passion for finding the right role for people.
Charlie puts it simply- no two days, conversations or roles are ever the same. On the client side, he enjoys partnering with businesses to solve hiring challenges and help them grow through the right talent, while on the candidate’ s side, he is drawn to building relationships with people and understanding what really motivates them, finding a real reward in helping someone take the next step in their career and seeing the positive impact it has on their life.
For Charlie, recruitment has always been about matching personalities, ambitions and culture, not just matching skills on a CV.
Charlie’ s success in recruitment is not only due to his experience but also down to his skills in communication, his sharp negotiation and problem-solving expertise, as well as the organisation and time management needed to juggle multiple job searches at once.
He has built up significant resilience and adaptability, and has the ability to build trust quickly. All of this makes it easy to see why clients and candidates find him easy to work with.
Key lessons Charlie has picked up from recruitment are that every candidate has a unique story worth understanding, that listening is often more valuable than talking, and that honest advice builds stronger, longer-lasting relationships than simply chasing a placement.
Above all, he believes success comes down to consistency and genuinely caring about the people you work with.
