A construction group with a difference
Celebrating 25 years of Meldrum Group
Founded in 2001, Meldrum Group has grown to offer a full suite of construction services, enabling inhouse delivery of key services and trades for greater control, consistency and cost efficiencies.
However, it’ s not expertise alone that has driven its success as a thriving local business- it’ s the group’ s people and culture that set it apart. As an Employee- Owned Trust( EOT), the organisation promotes a positive and collaborative environment where every employee has a vested interest in Meldrum’ s overall success.
How did Meldrum get here? Integrity, pride and passion, quality and innovation shape recruitment, leadership behaviours and day-to-day delivery expectations.
Meldrum is founded on the belief that organisational culture and success begin with the individual. This ethos helps the group attract and retain people who share those values, supporting the ongoing growth and success of the business.
Continuous innovation Meldrum Group is well-known for its investment in local communities and strong commitment to further education, having trained more than 213 apprentices over the last 25 years and continuously upskilling staff and senior leaders.
Specialities and milestones Meldrum’ s key strength lies in large-scale refurbishment and restoration of heritage and listed buildings, with notable projects including Auckland Castle(£ 20m), Redhills Durham Miner’ s Hall(£ 9.7m) and Spanish Gallery(£ 9.8m). The group has a wealth of experience in education, most recently completing the Castleford College Construction Skills Academy(£ 5.1m) and being appointed to the Department for Education’ s framework, one of the group’ s biggest milestones yet.
Plans for the future The Meldrum mission is to“ deliver innovative, high-quality solutions with integrity and a level of service that is both valued and recognised by the client.”
Meldrum will continue to invest in its EOT model and people-first culture, including maintaining Investors in People Gold accreditation( held since 2021) to support high-performing teams and stronger outcomes for clients.
Meldrum Group’ s sustainability plans are focused on delivering net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, supported by defined operational, project and procurement controls that drive ongoing emissions and waste reduction.
Project-led sustainability Sustainability underpins Meldrum’ s project delivery. At Yarm School, a fabric-first approach achieved a 31 % improvement in U-Values over Part L 2021 with an A ++- rated low carbon air source heat pump. It also achieved WELL GOLD certification at Northumbria Health and Care Academy and integrated an ultra-sustainable 107kW ground source heat pump at Redhills Durham Miners Hall to meet the building’ s entire energy demand.
Celebrating 25 years Meldrum Group clients and partners will get together in July this year to officially celebrate turning 25. Over the past quarter of a century, Meldrum has developed its services to include civil engineering, construction, building services, fire engineering, fabrication and facilities management, with the ability to self-deliver key services and trades in-house to improve control and consistency.
