MAKING SPACE

How PD Ports supports Teesside’ s global supply chains
Forklift – work carried out at PD Ports’ Billingham site.
With extensive warehousing capacity across Teesside and a fully integrated logistics offer, PD Ports supports businesses at every stage of their supply chain – from short-term storage to long-term, bespoke solutions. Here, the company’ s commercial director for warehousing, Mark Mulholland, explains more about how PD Ports can help any business with its storage needs

It may not be the most glamorous part of a business, but quality warehousing can make all the difference to the efficiency, accuracy and availability of a goods handling operation.

When the space isn’ t right, or managed correctly, the pressure on the supply chain soon begins to tell.
On Teesside, PD Ports has built a warehousing and supply chain operation designed to deal with every eventuality, no matter what a customer needs to store or move.
Although best known as a ports and logistics operator and Statutory Harbour Authority for Teesport and Hartlepool, the business has an established warehousing offer, with bonded and non-bonded warehousing providing practical, flexible solutions that extend well beyond the quay.
Mark Mulholland, commercial director – warehousing at PD Ports, says the company’ s flexibility and responsiveness to customer needs is key.
“ There’ s always movement,” he says.“ Volumes shift, timings change and you can’ t stand still. The aim is to stay flexible and make sure customers can keep moving without disruption.
“ We add value and remove complexity to ensure end-to-end supply chain simplicity.”
Scale and flexibility PD Ports’ warehousing footprint in Teesside, at quayside sites at Teesport, Port of Hartlepool and Teesport Commerce Park, as well as a major site at Billingham, supports a wide mix of customers – from SMEs and growing operators to established manufacturers, importers and exporters across B2B and B2C supply chains.
The warehousing offer covers racked and bulk storage, general cargo, heavy industry and food-grade operations, including BRCGS AA + accredited facilities.
Bonded warehousing, 24 / 7 security and Harbour Police oversight form part of the core infrastructure, providing reassurance for high-value or sensitive goods.
Facilities range from shared, multi-user buildings to fully dedicated sites, with space and configurations able to change as contracts evolve.
“ What we don’ t offer is a fixed template,” says Mark.
“ Every operation is different. Some customers need shared space they can dip in and out of. Others want a dedicated building designed around their production or distribution model.
“ The important thing is matching the facility and service to what the business needs.”
