The UK construction industry has undergone a radical transformation.” preventing fabrication bottlenecks.
Off-site applicators are increasingly turning to these high-performance, higher-solids products for their enhanced consistency, durability and ability to achieve the required thickness in a controlled factory environment.
While this method of off-site application is far more expensive to the end user’ s project, it offers a product which has controlled quality assurance, significantly mitigating regulatory risk.
SCH Site Services has ensured its team is up-to-date with this technology, undergoing specific training provided by its product manufacturers for the professional off-site application of their coatings.
SCH Site Services has invested heavily in a state-of-the-art climate-controlled spray facility at its Newton Aycliffe fabrication plant, ensuring the application of intumescent coating is carried out offsite, in a controlled environment.
This not only reduces the risk of contamination and poor application associated with on-site painting, which can be affected by weather and temperature, but it also allows the application process to be logged and monitored digitally – which is crucial for meeting the“ golden thread” of building information required by the BSA.
Gary added:“ Applying the coating off-site, under controlled conditions, is the most robust way to ensure compliance.
“ We can fully guarantee the quality and thickness of the application, something that is difficult to police on a congested construction site.
“ With the new level of personal accountability the BSA demands, contractors must be absolutely certain about the fire protection systems being used on their structures.”
Company background SCH Site Services is a specialist in steel fabrication, erection and painting, providing a complete“ all-under-one-roof” service to the construction industry across the UK, with a primary focus on the North- East.
The company has been established for more than 20 years. It operates out of its 39,000 sq ft fabrication facility in Aycliffe, where it has been located for the past 15 years, employing more than 40 highly skilled staff who have all spent their entire careers in the construction industry.
Founded in the early 1990s, the company started as Spennymoor Crane Hire with just four cranes and four drivers. In 2011, it underwent a huge structural change to widen its services and adopt the“ all-under-one-roof” business model, becoming the comprehensive service provider it is today.
Since this transformation, SCH Site Services has gone from strength to strength. Despite navigating tough challenges in recent years, particularly through Covid, the firm has maintained its revenues for the past five years while consistently retaining its repeat clients.
It’ s because of this stability that the company is always considering expanding its workforce, but Gary said the timing has to be right.
“ We are determined to make sure we keep the business strong and if the opportunity comes along to expand our workforce, then this will be done organically through a strong order book and demand,” he added.
“ We will continue to look for and recruit the most experienced people in our industry, as it’ s our expertise and knowledge that I believe makes us stand out from the rest.
“ This is what our clients expect from us – a well organised and professional company that delivers a highly skilled service from day one to the end of a project.”
