COLLECTIVE SPIRIT COVER FEATURE: How Grant and the Etc. bang the drum for Teesside

I

’ m proud to welcome you to the latest edition of Tees Business – the last of the 10th anniversary year for Tees Business. This edition is particularly special because it contains a feature on the eighth annual Tees Businesswomen Awards. What a night that was, filled with some wonderful stories.
The crowning of the new Tees Businesswoman of the Year is always a highlight of the awards- and this year’ s winner, Power of Women( PoW) director Rachel Burke, is an amazing role model and worthy winner.
But this year the evening was concluded with what, for me, was a very special moment when the incredible justice campaigner Ann Ming MBE was awarded the Jane Turner Award for Outstanding Contribution. What an example she is of resilience and determination in the face of an absolute tragedy for Ann and her family. Jane would definitely have approved.
All of the nominees and winners had worked so hard and were excellent role models for our business community. At PoW, we know the importance of role models – have a look at our article on page 143 explaining why they are so important and why we need more. Please make it a New Year’ s resolution to pay it forward.
There is so much positivity in our area with new opportunities and businesses, but we need our young people to believe that a bright future could be theirs. At PoW, that is what we want to show them through our programmes- but we need your support to do this.
Finally, with its very future in jeopardy, there are several features in this issue of Tees Business about everyone’ s favourite Teesside landmark – the Transporter Bridge. The reported repair bill is eye-watering and there are so many demands on public funds- but this bridge feels like an essential part of our industrial heritage. Somehow we need to find a way to save it and bring it back into operation.
So much to read and think about …
