Started by Ward Hadaway in 1989, the prestigious North-East Fastest 50 Awards, in association with The Journal, celebrates growth, innovation and the commercial achievements of North- East businesses.

The business was started in 1973 by Tony’ s father, Derek. The partnership with Škoda began in 1993, when only one Škoda model was available in the UK, the Favorit.
Both Derek Slack Motors and Škoda have gone from strength to strength since then, with Škoda establishing themselves in the UK with a full range of cars and SUVs in petrol, diesel and electric variants( including the Elroq – Europe’ s number one selling electric car in April and July this year) and Derek Slack Motors becoming the biggest and longest-established Škoda dealership in the north of England. Derek Slack Motors provides fleet servicing for Cleveland Police and a number of local mediumsized businesses in its fullyequipped, modern, 10-bay service workshop.
