I love the area, the culture and the people.”
for high-risk, complex projects across offshore wind, power, renewables and industrial sectors.
And some of those projects are eyecatching indeed.
They include:
> Mura Technology’ s ReNew ELP project on the Wilton International site – the first commercial-scale plastic recycling facility in the UK, where soft or previously unrecyclable plastic is converted to hydrocarbons or fuel.
> Providing mechanical and electrical services to GE Vernova for the preassembly of wind turbine towers for Dogger Bank – the world’ s largest offshore wind farm.
> Working on a 150MW battery energy storage solutions( BESS) project on Wilton International.
> Recent completion of an offshore substation for the Inch Cape windfarm project in Scotland, where Eastgate provided the HV and LV electrical outfitting at Smulders Yard, Wallsend.
> Working as tier one contractors with various big companies, including Mitsubishi Chemicals, Sembcorp and Anglo American. But is that scale of business what David envisaged when he came to Teesside?
Growth – Eastgate Engineering managing director David Brennan( right) was presented with the Job Creation( Overall) award at the 2025 VelociTees ceremony by Chris Bibby, of category sponsor Cornerstone Business Solutions, during an event to celebrate the region’ s fastest growing businesses.
He said:“ No question about it. Eastgate always thinks big – small numbers of large projects- and that’ s been our business model from the start.
“ Some people might say‘ well, start slow, don’ t go above your station’ but we were always going to work for the end client and tier ones.”
Projected turnover for 2025 is £ 26m, with plans to drive the business to more than £ 100m turnover within the next four to five years.
Eastgate employs around 280, whether that’ s directly, as contractors or through agencies.
And to help guide the firm through its next phase, a strong senior management team has been recruited, including commercial director Anthony Fiske, chief financial officer Claire Maith and new managing director Paul Carvill.
Hugely experienced in highly-regulated industries such as nuclear, petrochemicals, pharmaceutical and oil and gas, Paul, who joined in May, was attracted to Eastgate because“ it’ s an up-and-coming company with a strong work ethic, a‘ can do’ attitude and the agility to react to situations.”
He added:“ If you want a team that’ s responsive and can help you deliver complex project solutions on time and on budget, that’ s us.”
Anthony also likes Eastgate’ s flexibility, saying:“ We’ re agile so we can meet clients’ demands while working to different models of contract.
“ Working here offers a rewarding and dynamic experience within a supportive and forward-thinking environment.”
Like CEO David, Anthony and Paul came through the apprenticeship route, so know what it’ s like to start at ground level and make their way up.
And investment in young apprentices and graduates, says David, is a key part of the Eastgate approach.
Paul said:“ We’ ll definitely be looking to bring in more apprentices and graduates – new blood to work with experienced people.”
David added:“ Our people are the key part of everything we do. And there’ s no question about capability. It’ s been on our email signatures since day one – investing in people, the core of our business.
“ And just because you have a badge that might not be as old as others, it doesn’ t mean you can’ t do it.”
Eastgate often thinks“ out of the box” when it comes to getting its message across – a fun video featuring cult internet star Tiny Tim talking to David, for example, attracted thousands of views.
But the bottom line, says David, is a continuing pursuit of excellence – a pursuit that will be based in the Tees Valley.
He said:“ You can’ t ever be perfect, or you’ d never want to improve.
“ But we’ re in a good place, we’ ve got a strong team, we already have a good history of projects worked on and Teesside is the right place for us.”
