UCS completes solar installation for leading cloud firm
UCS Renewables has completed the installation of a rooftop solar photovoltaic( PV) system to help further reduce the carbon footprint of one of the UK’ s leading cloud services companies.
The 165-solar panel, 68kW system now installed at the Dundee headquarters of Brightsolid will contribute to the day-to-day energy needs of the company’ s offices, reducing reliance on grid-supplied electricity.
Established more than 25 years as part of DC Thomson, Brightsolid is a leading managed hybrid cloud and cybersecurity services provider, with customers including Aberdeenshire Council, Burness Paull, Dumfries and Galloway Council, Dundee
City Council, Shell, the University of Dundee and West Yorkshire Combined Authority.
UCS Renewables, a specialist in solar energy and green energy solutions with its head offices in Middlesbrough and teams based in Glasgow, London, Birmingham, Manchester and Newcastle, offers its services throughout the UK and Ireland.
The business also operates in a second sector under the name of UCS Technologies, specialising in IT infrastructure and networking.
UCS Renewables project manager Mick Lovstad said:“ Our renewable energy technologies include commercial solar array, residential solar systems, battery storage and electric vehicle chargers, with customers including public and private sector companies from NHS and local authorities to large supermarket chains and building contractors.
“ As part of UCS Renewables, we have a deep understanding of the specific challenges of installing in-roof systems on commercial buildings, as well as the opportunities it brings in reducing energy consumption in this type of environment.“ The new solar array at Brightsolid complements existing measures at the ISO 14001-certified company’ s data centres in Aberdeen and Dundee, which are powered by 100 % renewable electricity from wind and hydro sources, backed by Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin( REGOs) and verified by EcoAct, a CDPaccredited assessor, so we are pleased the new system will help the company further its ongoing commitments to carbon reduction.”
Elaine Maddison, CEO of Brightsolid, said:“ We are continually looking at how we can improve our environmental performance, and this installation is one part of that wider effort.
“ As a company working in the data space, we understand the growing environmental impact of IT and the importance of reducing it with a holistic approach to making our operations more sustainable.”
