Tees Central- the vision for Stockton centre at the heart of the Tees Valley.
Discover how Stocktonon-Tees is transforming through the Tees Central project, revitalising town centres, boosting economic growth and creating vibrant communities at the heart of the Tees Valley.
If you drop a pin into the centre of a map of the Tees Valley, it would land somewhere in Stockton town centre. It sits right in the middle of the region, with incredible connectivity not just to the North-East but to the entire country and beyond.
But Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is not standing still and is on the cusp of some of the biggest regeneration programmes of this generation. The town has innovated in the past with the invention of the friction match and the first passenger steam train journey, it’ s innovating now and will continue to innovate in the future.
The borough is the economic powerhouse of the Tees Valley, contributing more than a third of the region’ s economic output thanks to the 5,500-plus businesses already here.
With some of the lowest prices per square foot in development and office space in the region, it’ s easy to see why businesses are investing and thriving here.
The council’ s vision for the borough is one of innovation, vibrancy and forwardthinking. Through the Powering Our Future transformation programme, the council wants to ensure that Stockton is a place where people want to live, work and visit now and in the future.
The plans include:
> Redeveloping all its town centres as part of a wide-ranging regeneration programme.
> Transforming, reusing and repurposing existing assets to drive growth and make Stockton town centre a more attractive place to visit by reimagining what’ s already there.
> Increased opportunity for town centre living, developing a portfolio of development opportunities across central Stockton and north Thornaby,
