Raising the next generation of carers in Teesside

In the heart of Teesside, something quietly remarkable is taking place. It is not splashed across the newspaper front pages or trending online, but it is reshaping lives in ways that ripple through families and communities.

At Stockton-headquartered Moonrise, they are not just providing care services, they are cultivating a movement.

Their mission? To nurture a new generation of carers: people whose compassion, energy and skill can redefine the future of the care sector.
In an industry where numbers often overshadow people, Moonrise takes a different path.
“ Our purpose is our people,” says managing director Jessica Gwaringa, with a conviction that makes you believe it.
And it is not just a line for a brochure – it’ s the heartbeat of everything they do.
When four young people, aged just 18 to 20, first walked through the Moonrise doors, they were not looking for a job to pass the time. In truth, they were not even fully sure what they were walking into.
They had no formal experience. But what they did have was a willingness to learn and a deep sense of care for others – qualities that Moonrise recognised immediately.
For many, the care sector is something you stumble into. For these four, it became a journey. With training, mentoring and real responsibility from day one, they grew from eager beginners to confident professionals.
Some are now preparing for degrees in nursing and social care, building on the strong foundations they formed at Moonrise. Others are stepping into team leadership roles, guiding the very newcomers they once were.
These are not just career success stories – they are proof that, given the right environment, raw potential can become something extraordinary.
They have discovered that care is not a stopgap between“ real jobs”. It’ s a vocation with depth, challenge and purpose. And for the people they support, it is life-changing.
