demand is out there from manufacturers, installation and supply chain companies who require a sizeable site, with a quay of sufficient size and depth, to be able to progress North Sea development at the speed and scale needed to meet government targets.
“ We are keen to work with industry to ensure this site can be developed in collaboration to meet their exact requirements and provide a long-term facility that will mean PD Ports, and the wider Teesport, has a steady stream of investment and quality jobs for the foreseeable future.”
Planning and marine development consent is already in place for Teesport Offshore Gateway, subject to minor amendments, to develop an existing riverside berth at Tees Dock to create a 1km long quay with a 15.5m depth – suitable for all current and planned offshore vessels available globally.
With options for both floating and fixed bottom offshore wind development and with unrestricted access to the North Sea, Teesport Offshore Gateway has potential for a broad range of offshore manufacturers, assembly, marshalling and supply chain support services.
The addition of Teesport Offshore
Gateway would also future-proof PD Ports’ existing handling capacity at both the Teesport Container Terminal and the Tees Bulks Quay.
The River Tees, the sixth largest port complex in the UK, is already home to a number of offshore wind projects, including Able Seaton Port and the SeAH Wind monopile manufacturing facility.
The Port of Hartlepool, also owned and operated by PD Ports, is a hub for EDF Energy’ s operations and maintenance for the Teesside Offshore Wind Farm, off the coast of Redcar.
Frans said:“ Although these proposals are at an early stage, the work done previously to secure planning consents and marine development consent for the enlarged berth puts us in a strong position – we are open to discussions with the offshore sector about a range of development options.
“ We are particularly hopeful that a development of this size will create a number of jobs, firstly in the construction phase and then onwards as offshore activity is established.
“ Teesport has seen many waves of major industry in its history – we are excited to play our part in welcoming the green energy revolution to our river.”
PD Ports CEO Frans Calje is excited by the potential for the new offshore wind hub.
