With International Women ’ s Day just behind us , CF Fertilisers shine a light on some of the women blazing a trail for STEM careers on Teesside

With its long and distinguished history , the Billingham Complex is synonymous with the chemical industry on Teesside .
Operating against an ever-changing industrial , economic and political landscape , CF Fertilisers continues to evolve to meet the needs of its markets and customers , whilst simultaneously evolving as an employer .
Currently employing 176 people across the manufacturing site at Billingham and an SG & A function at Chester , their people and the communities they operate in are at the heart of their “ Do It Right ” culture .
With an unwavering focus on all aspects of safety , they are committed to cultivating a workplace culture where psychological safety is the equal to process safety , building an environment where everyone feels safe to respectfully voice their ideas and bring their whole selves to work – to feel seen , heard and valued .
This is complemented by their strategic goals , many of which are people-centric and underpinned by actions that support development , encourage collaboration and create opportunities .
Women in STEM In 2024 , employees at CF Fertilisers launched a STEM outreach programme .
Aligned with the company ’ s philanthropic pillar focused on STEM education , it aims to inspire the next generation of girls and boys in this field .
Working with education providers , employees volunteer their time to help develop future chemists , engineers and operators , sharing real-world stories on the pathways and opportunities that exist within the industry , to ensure it continues to flourish on Teesside .
Opportunities such as those currently being realised by these talented women at CF :
Kayleigh Hullah , site process engineer One of CF ’ s senior engineers , Kayleigh personifies channelling an early love of STEM into a flourishing career .
A product of the apprenticeship pathway , she completed her degree on a part-time basis at Teesside University , while working as a lab technician .
Since then , she has gone on to work in a variety of engineering roles and is now responsible for leading the site process engineering team at CF .
She is driven , passionate and a true role model for all young and aspiring engineers , according to Imran Khaliq , engineering manager .
As well as excelling in engineering , she has always made it her mission to share her
