’ m delighted to deliver the foreword for this 10th anniversary special edition of Tees Business . As Tees Business reaches a significant milestone , it is worth taking a moment to reflect on our collective journey over the last 10 years .
Back in 2015 , we had no idea that in the coming years we would face two of the biggest challenges of our time : Covid 19 lockdowns and war-driven energy inflation .
The fact that businesses have not only weathered these challenges but have digitised and decarbonised much of their operations as a result is a remarkable testament to the resilience and innovation across our business community .
While we are now emerging from the highest employment rate period of recent decades , we should grasp the opportunity that growing numbers of young people in our workforce presents . Wouldn ’ t it be fantastic to look back in 10 years ’ time to see the number of Tees Valley businesses who take on apprentices grow from one in five , as it stands now , to , say , four in five by 2035 ?

My hope is that the next 10 years sees a seismic shift in the investment and value we all place upon human capital – an opportunity for our businesses , our economy and our next generation .
