Augean celebrates two decades of excellence on Teesside

leading company in the specialist waste management sector is celebrating 21 years of excellence serving communities across the UK including Teesside .
Augean delivers a wide range of services to recycle , recover , treat and dispose of hard-to-handle wastes in an environmentally responsible and sustainable way .
The firm operates 22 sites across the UK , enabling Augean to work with customers to achieve the best environmental outcomes for their waste through its spectrum of capabilities .
Augean has owned and operated its Teesside site at Port Clarence since 2004 .
The site demonstrates the company ’ s integrated approach to managing waste through treatment and recovery facilities at the Waste Recovery Park , treatment and disposal facilities at the Port Clarence Landfill and the provision of specialist industrial services .
It is a nationally important facility that provides a strategically placed resource for local and regional industry .
Through Augean ’ s capabilities , the company supports several critical industries , facilitating higher levels of recycling and recovery , while advancing the circular economy , keeping local industry and the economy moving .
In recent years , significant changes in policy and legislation have been made , designed to limit the quantity and types of waste sent to landfill and encourage an increase in waste reduction , re-use , recycling or recovery . This is referred to as the waste hierarchy .
Augean has established a reputation for its innovative approach .
In 2008 , at Port Clarence , Augean began to develop the UK ’ s largest integrated specialist waste facility on a single site .
The facility was planned to comprise up to 13 integrated waste management treatment activities , seeking to optimise recycling and recovery from industrial waste , particularly hazardous waste .
Richard Brooke , who was promoted to Augean ’ s CEO in January this year , says : “ We seek continuous improvement of our services by introducing new processes and technologies and regularly review our performance so that we can continue to deliver optimum environmental techniques and solutions for waste management .
“ A range of technologies and waste recycling and recovery activities have been and will continue to be progressively commissioned and operated at Port Clarence .”
Where material cannot be recycled or recovered , treatments enable the reduction of the hazardousness or the volume of a wide range of contaminated materials , rendering residues suitable for disposal .
The Port Clarence landfill site is available for the disposal of hazardous waste and non-hazardous waste in two adjacent landfills . The two operational landfills are independently engineered and controlled .
The landfill site is located directly adjacent to the Waste Recovery Park , so it can accept the residues from waste treatment without the need for further transportation .
Augean ’ s specialist industrial services can deliver large-scale specialist cleaning and decommissioning projects for businesses in the Tees area .
The operations are , therefore , integral , with each underpinning the sustainability of the other .
Locally , the firm treats and handles significant volumes of different types of energy-from-waste plant residue .
One example of its commitment to the environment is that Augean treats more air pollution control residue from renewable energy plants than any other operator in the UK .

soils , asbestos , filter cakes , slags and dredging waste .
