Katmex celebrates 25 years of rapid expansion and engineering excellence

For a quarter of a century , Katmex has been a powerful force in the heavy equipment manufacturing industry , building a reputation for precision , innovation and an unwavering commitment to its North-East roots .

As the company marks this milestone anniversary in 2024 , it is not only reflecting on past achievements but also laying the groundwork for a future focused on sustainability , growth and excellence across a broad range of sectors .
Building a legacy of quality Founded in 1999 through a visionary partnership between Katsushiro Matex , KEISA and Mitsubishi , Katmex began with a clear mission : to supply high-quality steel parts and precision fabrications for the construction and earthmoving sectors .
Initially operating from a facility in Stockton and later adding another in Seaham , County Durham , Katmex quickly established itself as a trusted supplier , known for delivering exceptional quality parts for the industry .
Over the years , Katmex has gained momentum . It began supplying components to several JCB divisions in 2008 and the company expanded its partnership with Komatsu when it began supplying its Construction division in Germany during 2010 .
More locally , it began supplying precision components to Caterpillar ’ s articulated truck plant in Peterlee , County Durham .
These collaborations cemented Katmex ’ s reputation for quality , leading to the company being named Komatsu UK ’ s Supplier of the Year three times . Most recently , in 2023 , Katmex was honoured at the Komatsu Global Midori Kai Event as one of only eight global suppliers to receive the prestigious Grand Partner Award .
Bringing this award back to the Tees Valley was a proud moment , recognising the dedication of the team at Katmex to deliver excellence on a worldwide scale .
Investing for the long run In the past decade , Katmex has invested heavily to ensure its operations remain efficient , sustainable and ready for future challenges .
More than £ 2.6m has been allocated to infrastructure upgrades and technological advancements .
A highlight of these improvements was the £ 1.4m project to replace the roof and cladding at its expansive 25,000-sq m Stockton facility .
This new design is not only visually striking but also incorporates 10 % skylighting , enhancing both natural light and energy efficiency .
Looking further ahead , Katmex is exploring solar power options to support its net zero ambitions .
