The business and education sectors have joined forces to back the Tees region ’ s powerful new skills publication – designed to inform and inspire our future workforce .
The hugely positive response to new careers publication Tees Skills continues to gain momentum as 10,000 copies are distributed to the region ’ s young people – along with their parents , educators and local businesses .
Tees Skills primarily targets those aged 14-18 with features about the skills and career opportunities there are in the Tees region – encouraging them to stay , study , work , live and thrive here .
With 8,000 copies distributed to schools , colleges and the university , a further 2,000 copies of Tees Skills have been circulated to the region ’ s businesses and business hubs .
Tees Skills was developed from concept to reality by Resolution Media and Publishing , the team behind Tees Business .
Resolution director Dave Allan said : “ We ’ ve had such positive feedback about Tees Skills from its very conception , but it ’ s uplifting to hear the response we ’ ve had since its publication .
“ Influential voices in both education and business tell us that Tees Skills is a truly valuable addition to the conversation around the skills gap and the breakdown between those young people who think they need to leave our region to fulfil their ambitions and the local businesses who have well-paid jobs waiting to be filled by those with the right skills .
“ It ’ s just the start – but it ’ s a hugely positive first few steps . To borrow a well-known local phrase about our region , Tees Skills is an infant – but it is an infant Hercules !”
Schools and colleges across Middlesbrough , Redcar & Cleveland , Stockton , Hartlepool and Darlington have partnered with Resolution to distribute Tees Skills to students .
One of the distribution partners is the Education Training Collective ( Etc .), which includes Bede Sixth Form , NETA Training , Redcar and Cleveland College , Stockton Riverside College and The Skills Academy .
Grant Glendinning , chief executive and group principal of Etc ., said : “ Tees Skills magazine is a fantastic addition to the resources available for young people in our area .
“ It is so important those aged between 14 and 18 recognise the future opportunities and potential careers available to them , right here on their doorstep .
“ Tees Skills offers a great platform to let young readers know that if they choose to study , train and work here in the Tees Valley , they too can be part of the area ’ s development and success .”
Wilton Group CEO Bill Scott OBE – voted by peers as the region ’ s most inspiring business leader – is a huge advocate for Tees Skills .
He said : “ It ’ s so important that the skills agenda is raised . There ’ s never been a more important time to raise its profile , to show the requirement and demand for skills . This magazine does that .
“ I always talk about grasping the nettle and making it work and I think Tees Skills is definitely a step in the right direction .”
