A

night of joy , emotion and tears saw 12 winners lift the trophies but all 350 attendees celebrating and supporting the achievements of others at the Tees Businesswomen Awards 2024 .
Organised by Tees Business but judged by category sponsors , the seventh annual awards were held in Hardwick Hall ’ s Grand Marquee – once again in partnership with Middlesbrough College Group .
Middlesbrough College has been headline sponsor of the game-changing awards since they began in 2018 – and has agreed a new three-year deal that extends its commitment to a tenth year .
Twelve awards were handed out at the event , which was hosted by news presenter Rachel Sweeney .
The ceremony opened with pre-dinner speeches from Tees Business director Martin Walker and Middlesbrough College ’ s vice principal , students and communications , Aimey Adamson .
Generous support for the night ’ s chosen cause , Teesside Hospice , saw £ 2,600 raised for the iconic charity following stirring words from its director of nursing and quality , Debbie Edwards . Julie Burniston , head of corporate development at Teesside Hospice , said the charity was “ overjoyed ” to receive the donations “ thanks to the generosity of those who attended this wonderful event .”
She added : “ The team and I would like to extend our congratulations to the winners and to those shortlisted – you are a shining example of just how amazing the businesswomen of our region truly are .
“ To each and every person who donated via the envelope draw and QR code at the event , we extend our heartfelt gratitude . It ’ s thanks to you that our wonderful hospice can continue to serve the people of Teesside and ensure that those facing the end of their life can do so pain-free and surrounded by love .”
There was also a Q & A session between Martin ’ s fellow director Dave Allan and the inaugural Tees Businesswoman of the Year Claire Preston , who spoke about “ the profound impact ” of the awards as well as her passion for the work she does with the Power of Women campaign and local charity The Halo Project .
Afterwards , Claire said : “ This event celebrates more than just women supporting women . It honours those

who lead by example , fostering a community where we feel safe to be vulnerable and are driven to help each other and the next generation to achieve .
“ It was wonderful to see new and familiar faces and hear such brilliant examples of extraordinary ordinary women !”

185 unique finalists in seven years

No fewer than 30 new names featured in the list of finalists at this year ’ s Tees Businesswomen Awards .

There were 115 entries and nominations this year – taking the total number of entries in seven years to 726 .

And there has been 109 unique individual finalists in seven years , with the total number of unique shortlisted organisations now reaching 76 .
