Full STEM ahead for new £ 12m TTE training centre
The new academic year is always an exciting time at Middlesbrough College Group but this September had long promised to be extra special .
That ’ s because the group ’ s brand new £ 12m training centre opened its doors to students for the first time .
This state-of-the-art teaching facility is being operated by leading workforce training provider TTE Technical , part of the Middlesbrough College Group .
The new facility replaces the former TTE Centre in South Bank and will train more than 300 full-time students , 300 apprentices and 500 adults each year , alongside a thriving international cohort of students .
Providing more than 3,000-sq m of space over two storeys , the centre ’ s fantastic facilities include : > Seven large multifunction / multidiscipline workshops to provide for Instrumentation , Electrical & Electronic Engineering , Mechanical , Hydraulics , Pneumatics , Process Engineering and Net Zero Low Carbon Technology workspaces
> Seven breakout classrooms and study spaces
> A large conference room and staff workspaces
> Student social and welfare areas
Subject specialisms being taught at the site include Mechanical , Electrical , Instrumentation , Chemical Process , Wind Turbine , Mechatronic , Machining and Laboratory courses .
The centre will host a raft of part-time courses for people who are already in
work and keen to boost their skills in areas including Computer-Aided Design , Electrical and Mechanical Engineering and Health and Safety .
The centre will also help TTE continue to provide high-quality apprenticeship programmes to a wide range of employers across the North-East .
Short courses it will host will include Electrical Safety , Hydraulic Systems , Virtual Process Control Room Operations , Safety Passport , Leadership and Management and many more .

“ The new centre complements the already extensive STEM offer at our campus in Middlehaven and ensures that our students have access to state-ofthe-art , ‘ real scale ’ industrial equipment and industrial specialist staff , which will support the region ’ s existing and emerging businesses .

The new TTE training centre features brand new equipment bought in by the college , equipment transferred from the previous TTE centre and a number of pieces of equipment donated by some of the college ’ s many partners in industry .
This has included cutting edge instrumentation equipment donated by Mitsubishi Chemical UK and industrystandard equipment donated by Grundfos , Crane Process Flow Technologies and Xylem .
The high standard of the equipment and how it mirrors that used in industry is a key strength of the new TTE training centre , alongside the years of experience in industry and education its tutors possess .
This all enables students to apply their theoretical knowledge to practical applications , giving them a real headstart when it comes to performing well in the workplace .
