Green future – the long-term operational savings of heat pump systems can be substantial due to superior energy efficiency .

Climatec going green

WORDS : PAUL FRASER

Redcar-based Climatec Engineering is leading by example and demonstrating its own commitment to sustainability by embracing greener technologies .

After spending almost five years at the Kirkleatham Business Park , the commercial gas heating and air conditioning installation and maintenance specialists have been keen to improve their own carbon footprint .
Climatec removed the gas heating at their headquarters and replaced it with air source heat pumps , contributing to the drive towards net zero – a message they regularly stress to their customers across the UK .
Neil Gilsenan , the Climatec co-owner , said : “ Speaking purely from a personal point of view , I know how energy costs have gone through the roof , so it is important to reduce energy costs .
“ Whether it is in your home , your office , a bigger unit or the wider environment and climate , we all must look at the bigger picture and see how we can help in our own way .
“ We must think of our children ’ s future . Me and Paul Greensmith , who founded the business , both have children and we think it is important to help when we think of their futures and what lies ahead for them .
“ One thing for sure is that air source heat pumps are much better than 20-year-old gas boilers for the environment .”
Air conditioning units with heat pump technology are far more energy efficient , especially in moderate climates like on Teesside , and can significantly reduce carbon emissions .
Heat pumps do not combust fuel , resulting in cleaner air for employees and the surrounding community and have lower operating costs .
Initial investment in a heat pump system can be slightly higher than a gas boiler , but the long-term operational savings can be substantial due to the superior energy efficiency .
Climatec has positioned itself as an industry leader in sustainability , enhancing its reputation and attracting environmentally conscious clients .
Many businesses are increasingly seeking sustainable solutions , and Climatec can cater to this growing demand by offering greener alternatives .
What the Tees Valley firm has found is that many business leaders , and homeowners , don ’ t realise it is possible to switch from gas boiler systems .
“ It is not common knowledge , even if it is within the industry , because a lot of people don ’ t like change ,” said Neil .
“ If someone runs a small commercial business , they often just want a like-for-like replacement . But it doesn ’ t have to be like that .
“ We recently installed heat pumps on a new housing development in North Yorkshire . We can fit those anywhere .
“ We work closely with a local heating manufacturer and look at ways to improve efficiency and what other renewable source options are available in our market . We are always developing and improving .
“ A lot of people , on a smaller scale , will want replacements for what they have always had . They don ’ t think of

air conditioning as a heating system in this country because generally it ’ s only something we use when we go on holiday .” Climatec are looking at other ways to reduce their own carbon footprint such as exploring adding electric vehicles to their fleet .
There have been recent projects in the Isle of Wight and Harrogate as well as overseeing the plumbing and gas works of an office refurbishment in Newcastle .
Expansions have led to a push to increase the workforce and they continue to look for new commercial gas , plumbing and air conditioning engineers .
Paul added : “ We are still looking for more good quality engineers to help us with our drive and upcoming workload .
“ We have noticed a big shortage of engineers in the industry and it has proven difficult to find the right staff who care .”
