year on from becoming officially affiliated with Middlesbrough FC , Boro Women are reflecting on a remarkable first season that saw the team embark on an incredible 19-match unbeaten run and narrowly miss out on the league title and promotion .
Under the stewardship of experienced boss Michael Mulhern , who helped shaped the careers of household names such as Jill Scott , Steph Houghton , Lucy Bronze and Beth Mead , Boro Women ’ s impressive campaign also included two matchdays at the Riverside Stadium , the latter a 5-0 thumping of Doncaster Rovers Belles in front of a delighted home crowd .
With only one promotion spot on offer at the top of the FAWNL Division One North , the title race with Hull City Ladies went right to the wire , and Mulhern ’ s side are determined to go one better next year .
Talented – Teenage centre-back Abby Towers was manager Mick Mulhern ’ s first Boro signing last summer .
MFC Women general manager Ben Fisher said : “ We ’ ve been delighted with the progress we have shown in the last 12 months . We ’ re now looking to build on those foundations , improve again in 2024 / 25 and get that promotion .
“ Being part of MFC and having the opportunity to train at Rockliffe Park has been a significant boost , given the firstclass facilities on offer . I would like to say a massive thank you to all our sponsors for the support they have shown to us throughout the season .”
The club has added a variety of sponsors and partners to their portfolio over the last year , with rights specifically relating to the women ’ s team .
