WHY

IS KEY FOR TEES SUCCESS

o man is an island . No business is either , for that matter .
No matter how big or small an organisation – whether it is service driven , people orientated or focused on goods handling or manufacturing – it can only operate thanks to a wider ecosystem that helps it to survive and thrive .
Every piece in a business ’ operational jigsaw is vital . In Teesside , we have long had a close-knit business network – for the region to succeed , we need to work together .
As the largest private employer in the region and a significant driver of inward investment to Teesside , we at PD Ports have long recognised the importance of collaboration and partnership working .
As we approach 2024 , I wanted to take the opportunity to recognise and celebrate just a few of the partnerships and collaborative roles we hold at PD Ports that we feel can make a real difference across Teesside in the years to come .
A dual role Since 1852 , PD Ports has been the guardian of the River Tees , responsible for its management and upkeep – the lead partner in the collective effort to help the river and its environs thrive . As Statutory Harbour Authority ( SHA ), we oversee vessel traffic management , ensure safe navigation and maintain channel depths for the thousands of vessels that visit Teesport each year .
The depth and scale of port operations on the Tees are what help to make our region an industrial powerhouse . As well as cargo handling , the river – and the Port of Hartlepool – are home to petrochemicals , steel and renewable energy operations , among many others .
We ’ re keenly aware that our custodial operations on the river are vital for the success and vitality of many businesses based on its banks , and their wider supply chain .
Champion – Frans Caljé will continue to promote Teesside and lobby for investment and national support .
