Teesside Airport ’ s Getting Down to Business
Work to develop Teesside Airport ’ s land and assets is roaring ahead , with the first Business Park South unit and link road days away from completion .
Business Park South will create up to 4,400 jobs when fully operational , made up of 2.8million sq ft of logistics , distribution , and industrial buildings with airside access .
Four units covering 130,000sq ft will be created in the first phase of the southside development , with work on the first 25,105sq ft unit now almost complete , alongside the 1.5km access road . The steel for the structure has been sourced from British Steel ’ s Lackenby plant , near Redcar .

Construction work has also begun on a major new hangar after plans were approved for the 27,000sq ft structure .

This is the first of two new hangars which will provide a key development to attract further investment and return the airport to profit . The hangar will be 44 metres wide and 57 metres long and reach up to 16.5 metres at its highest point . When completed it will provide additional space for aircraft storage and maintenance .
The airport is continuing to support local firms such as S & A Fabrications , which is developing the new hangar . For the Business Park , steelwork was erected by Nationwide Structures – which has offices in Stockton
– and follows eight weeks of demolition and earthworks by Middlesbrough-based ZTL Contracting .
The airport has also partnered with SSE Energy Solutions to develop a solar farm within the grounds to meet airport and local business demand . The firm has also signed a lease for an office for 15 employees at the airport as it undertakes the first phase of the project .
