There ’ s no big secret to the success of Coldtech Refrigeration & Air Conditioning The Teesside-based refrigeration and air conditioning firm simply delivers exceptional customer service and has been doing so for the best part of four decades .
Coldtech specialises in refrigeration and air conditioning installation , repair , maintenance , design and sales .
The company , which is based in Middlesbrough , was established in 1985 by Geoff Marron , whose first clients were just a handful of butchers .
But from those modest beginnings the fledgling firm soon expanded to the point where Coldtech became a major player in the North-East .
Coldtech has evolved since the 1980s from working primarily in pubs , clubs and the brewing industry , which have declined , to local authorities , the NHS and large local blue-chip companies .
“ We support more than 750 customers now and the company seems to be going from strength to strength ,” says director Kate Peel .
“ We ’ re a reactive service company and we pride ourselves in offering excellent service . We must offer a quick response and aim to complete a service call on the first visit .”
Coldtech may be a big deal these days , but that doesn ’ t mean the company has forgotten its roots .
Far from it , in fact , because the firm believes in keeping it in the family . Managing director Darren Moody works alongside his wife , who is employed in Coldtech ’ s headquarters , as well as their son and daughter .
Darren ’ s story typifies Coldtech ’ s determination to invest in its workforce . “ He started with us as a YTS ( Youth Training Scheme ) trainee just a year after Coldtech was founded and we ’ re really proud of the fact that he started as a trainee and has worked his way up to being our managing director and coowner .”
Ideally located just off the A66 , Coldtech is within easy reach of a client base that stretches past Newcastle , down to Leeds and across the North-East .
“ Air conditioning has risen in popularity and we have seen an increase in our installation from commercial to domestic in recent years , especially in heating ,” says director Simon Walker , who started at Coldtech in 1992 .
“ We always use top manufacturers and specify a premium brand , which is built to quality and not to a price .”
With evolving energy efficiency demands and more low-carbon products available , Coldtech Refrigeration & Air Conditioning is looking forward to moving with the times by reducing its carbon footprint .
