Port of Middlesbrough prepared to reap Teesside Freeport benefits
As a proud business placed at the heart of the Teesside Freeport – the UK ’ s first and largest freeport – AV Dawson ’ s Port of Middlesbrough is freeport-ready .
Located just a short distance from the mouth of the River Tees , Port of Middlesbrough has been designated as a secondary customs zone within the Teesside Freeport .
Businesses utilising the site can now take advantage of a range of potential freeport benefits . These include duty deferral while the goods remain on site and suspended import VAT on goods entering the customs zone .
AV Dawson ’ s site boasts several freeport zones across its 100-plus acres of land . This includes two new locations – Newport Park and Endeavour Park – both based on Riverside Park in Middlesbrough , less than a mile away from the port facility . Both sites have excellent road transport links onto the A66 and A19 – two key arterial routes into Teesside .
The two sites can be used for outside storage , including freeport cargoes , and are ideal for cargo such as long steel products .
Group managing director Charlie Nettle said : “ It ’ s exciting to see some new opportunities being created with our involvement in the Teesside Freeport .
“ We are hugely proud to be a part of the Teesside Freeport , particularly with it being one of the first freeports in the country . It gives the region a huge advantage and the businesses within it need to capitalise on this .
“ We have effectively divided our port site into over 20 freeport sub-zones . This enables us to control the movement of goods while providing maximum flexibility to our customers . We pride ourselves on being versatile and can adapt most of our spaces for multiple purposes to accommodate customers ’ needs .
“ Resourcefulness is one of our values and we can act on things fast and make quick decisions to support our customers .
“ One advantage of working within a freeport zone is that companies can move products from one freeport area to another , even across the country , without incurring duty . This presents a great opportunity for ports across the UK to work together to support their customers .
“ In addition to the new sites where we offer external storage , we have a number of other freeport subzones that businesses can benefit from . These include a range of warehousing
