Teesside Hospice rings in corporate changes with new appointment

Teesside Hospice has embarked on a new era of business engagement with the appointment of Julie Burniston as its head of corporate development .

Julie ’ s background as a journalist , editor and events manager , combined with her strong local ties , positions her perfectly to steer the hospice ’ s corporate outreach efforts .
Already a familiar face on the Tees business circuit , Julie brings a wealth of experience garnered from a successful journalism career spanning three decades , including notable stints with IPC Magazines in London .
Her return to Teesside in 2019 marked a pivotal moment in Julie ’ s career as she became a prominent writer for Tees Business magazine and editor of the firm ’ s Tees Life and Love Middlesbrough publications . She was also involved in organising events such as the Tees Businesswomen Awards , Best New Tees Business Awards and Tees Tech Awards . Taking on the role of head of corporate development , Julie ’ s mission is to leverage her expertise to foster strong relationships with the region ’ s business leaders . Her goal is to elevate awareness and support for the hospice ’ s critical work , which revolves around providing specialised palliative care for individuals facing terminal illnesses .
Despite its exceptional reputation and significant community support , Teesside Hospice faces ongoing financial challenges .
While hospitals and governmentfunded healthcare organisations receive substantial financial backing , the hospice relies on community contributions for approximately two-thirds of its funding , with the cost of keeping its doors open amounting to around £ 6,000 per day .
By forging strategic partnerships within the corporate community , Julie will play a central role in advancing the hospice ’ s mission and ensuring its long-term sustainability .
David Smith , CEO of Teesside Hospice , expressed excitement over Julie ’ s appointment . He said : “ We are thrilled to welcome Julie to Teesside Hospice as our head of corporate development . Her understanding of the local business landscape and exceptional relationshipbuilding skills position her perfectly to enhance our fundraising endeavours and extend the impact of our services .”
Collaborating closely with key members of the hospice team , including director of income generation Debbie Coulson , head of fundraising Channon Barlow and marketing and communications manager Chris Cook , Julie aims to create a positive difference in the lives of those in need .
