Sam Craddock Engineering and maintenance supervisor Sam , of Marske , comes armed with vast experience , having served with the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers for 17 years .
He said : “ With my job in the military and the job I ’ m doing now , it ’ s been quite an easy transition really . Everyone is great and there ’ s a lot to get my teeth stuck into .
“ It ’ s the challenge of the company looking to the future and wanting to modernise that really appealed .
“ I ’ m used to working on a vast array of equipment – anything from a Landrover to a Challenger 2 main battle tank – so I think my general knowledge base passes on well .
“ The mechanical and hydraulic principles are the same , regardless of whether it ’ s a machine or a vehicle .
“ There ’ s also the organisation of manpower to bring the best out of the teams , which is something I ’ ve brought across from the military .”
Sam ’ s line manager John Donaldson said his military and mechanical experience will prove a valuable addition to the Katmex team .
He said : “ Sam ’ s come on board to help relieve some of the day-to-day pressure for myself so I can work more strategically .
“ He ’ s come in from a different background but has adapted very well into his role . I see some of the benefits of his background – organisation of the team is already obvious and some of the methodology they use in the military can be utilised in Katmex for repairing machines .”
Leah Green HR advisor Leah from Stockton comes to Katmex from the waste industry – and she ’ s wasting no time in familiarising herself with the firm ’ s enlightened approach to employee wellbeing .
She said : “ In any job description , I look for key words like wellbeing , equality and diversity and what I found with Katmex were that they were not only looking to improve in these areas , but to excel .

“ I ’ ve dealt with other businesses where the employee wellbeing stops at occupational health – Katmex wants to drive past that and focus on employee wellbeing .
“ With equality and diversity , it ’ s not a ‘ tick box ’ exercise for Katmex – it ’ s something they ’ re willing to strive and improve on .
“ The key areas of focus for me are wellbeing , equality and diversity but also promoting good mental health in the workplace .
“ This is why we ’ re taking steps to implement a policy , process and procedures to help encourage good mental wellbeing and I will be heavily involved in driving that forward .”
