Climatec making manufacturers take note
Climatec Engineering is focused on building on an excellent reputation that has already earned them an award from a renowned international air conditioning manufacturer .
The Teesside-based commercial air conditioning and gas specialist was recognised for delivering a high-quality install on the south coast .
Midea , said to be one of the largest worldwide manufacturers of air conditioning units , rewarded Climatec with the Best Air Conditioning Installer Award for a project in 2022 .
Climatec installed nine of Midea ’ s systems on a 106,000-sq ft site and soon found its own posts on social media had an incredible effect .
Neil Gilsenan , who set up the business six years ago along with Paul Greensmith , said : “ We were completely shocked . We had been invited to the awards ceremony at Reading Football Club unprepared to win .
“ We had enjoyed playing football on the pitch during the day , so it had already been fun before we attended the awards on the night . It was a fantastic occasion and we are really proud of what was achieved .
“ We hadn ’ t even entered for the award . It all came about after we had taken some photographs of our air conditioning installation for a national DIY store we work with down south .
“ The posts gathered pace on social media – went viral , I think the term is – and it received recognition from Midea ’ s top bosses worldwide for the standard of the finish , the neatness and tidiness , all things we pride ourselves on with any job , no matter what size .”
Climatec regularly uses Midea , which has a UK head office in Newcastle and has strong links to the football world with partnerships with Manchester City and Reading .
To have had the privilege of playing at Reading ’ s Select Car Leasing Stadium , previously known as the Madejski Stadium , was nice for keen football fans Neil and Paul .
Since establishing the business in 2017 , the good friends have completed jobs with Climatec in the sporting world for Middlesbrough and Peterborough United football clubs .
Neil said : “ We became a community partner at Middlesbrough and the work followed on from that , while Peterborough asked us through a contact of ours . It ’ s been nice to have had those because we both enjoy our football .
“ We weren ’ t businessmen when we set Climatec up , so it has opened our eyes to sign up as community business partners at Middlesbrough and network with other like-minded businesses .
“ It ’ s nice to see the local club push local businesses in the way they do . It was never our intention to work with football clubs , our intention was to get work , but there is an element of extra satisfaction working for football clubs as football fans .”
Climatec is set to expand again with the appointment of a mechanical estimator at its HQ at Kirkleatham Business Park , Redcar .
There are already two admin staff , 10 engineers and the two directors , Neil and Paul , with further growth expected .
Neil said : “ As we look to expand the

team we will look to promote from within . We would rather reward the staff we have here when we can , rather than recruit from new all the time .
“ We are operating nationwide , and especially on Teesside . Most staff are from the Teesside area , and we will travel away to complete the jobs .
“ We tried to recruit nationally at one point but there seems to be a better work ethic from the north . That ’ s been important for us to get right .
“ The business has grown continuously . It has thrived without really trying too hard . It is amazing how word has spread about Climatec , and word of mouth goes a long way .
“ Hopefully we will continue to grow with the right people and to satisfy and impress clients as we have done so far .”
