Transporting our children back in time
A
big part of Coatham Coaches ’ business is educational visits – providing transport for schools to places of interest such as museums , attractions , parks and outdoor activities .
It ’ s a key part of children ’ s enrichment and schools try to offer something different , informative , educational and interesting and give their children the chance to experience trips they may not be able to do with family or friends .
“ Working with schools and understanding their wants and needs is what we do , but in current times we know we have to try to make trips affordable for everyone ,” says managing director Mark Hodgson .
Mark has been the chair of governors at South Bank Primary School for a number of years and uniquely , the business has other links to education .
Transport manager Louise worked in schools and office manager Nichola was also a teaching assistant in a large school for children with special educational needs and disabilities .
“ This gives us a real understanding of what our partner schools go through ,
with budget pressures and the need for risk assessments and safer transport ,” says Mark .
It ’ s also why Coatham is announcing an exciting collaboration with Skinningrove attraction Land of Iron .
Standing on the site of Cleveland ’ s first ironstone mine , Land of Iron allows children to get up close and explore our area ’ s rich and fascinating history .
This hands-on journey transports them back 150 years to the time of the industrial revolution , when the area and its people supplied over a third of the world ’ s iron and steel .
