UNANIMOUS VOTE FOR MAYORAL DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION

Moves to set up a new mayoral development corporation have been unanimously backed by Hartlepool Council . All councillors backed the principle of a list of assets transferring into the ownership of the new Hartlepool Mayoral Development Corporation , as well as the constitution of the new body .

Legislation was officially laid before parliament for Middlesbrough and Hartlepool ’ s respective development corporations earlier this year .
The new zone is designed to transform the town by driving investment and cutting red tape .
Protections to ensure the council doesn ’ t lose out financially are also being agreed , including possible options for the council to take back assets in future .
Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen was delighted with the result .
He said : “ I ’ m thrilled our vision
for Hartlepool has received such an overwhelming show of support . It ’ s yet another great day for the town .
“ Our new mayoral development corporation will boost our efforts to make Hartlepool a cultural capital in the north . It will help us slash red tape so we can supercharge the redevelopment of the Waterfront , and boost investment .
“ It ’ s been a terrific year for Hartlepool already with £ 16.5m secured through the Levelling Up Fund to pump money into the Church Street area .
“ The cross-party backing we ’ ve received from the council means we ’ re one step closer to transforming the town for the better , and this is how politics should be .”
Cllr Shane Moore , leader of Hartlepool Borough Council , said : “ I ’ m confident the development corporation will bring real practical benefits to people and businesses across Hartlepool .”
ROOFING FIRM LAUNCHES SCAFFOLDING BUSINESS
A Hartlepool-based roofing firm has launched its own scaffolding division .
Findley Roofing has also taken on new staff to support the new venture and help the company continue its growth plans .
Managing director Dean Coombe said : “ The idea came about after hearing so many complaints from customers about scaffolders .
“ We want to be able to offer our customers the best experience , and not be in the hands of third-party scaffolders , so this was the perfect solution . “ We won ’ t be working for anyone else . All the scaffolding work will stay in-house to offer clients an even more seamless experience .”
Investment boosts cabling firm ’ s growth plans
A Tees-based cabling installation company is planning to increase the number of impressive contracts it has already won after securing a five-figure investment from UKSE .
Hartlepool Cable Services , set up by Lee Douglas , started operating in June 2022 from UKSE ’ s Innovation Centre in Hartlepool .
Hartlepool Cable Services is now working alongside major electrical engineering contractors on projects that include the new HS2 railway , Wilton International , data centres and hospitals , a 37-storey office development in the city of London and several water treatment works .

Lift shaft installed in station overhaul
Hartlepool Station ’ s redevelopment is continuing , with new images revealing how construction crews installed two lift shafts as part of the project .
The steel shafts are each made up of two sections , weighing a total of 16.9 tonnes , and were put in place on platforms 2 and 3 in four separate crane lifts .
A 30-tonne tailing crane lifted the sections upright before a 100-tonne critical crane put the steel in place .
This piece of work was completed overnight to prevent disruption .
The works will help provide more capacity to enable future service for routes including those between London and Sunderland operated by Grand Central .
Automotive firm creates five new apprenticeship roles
An automotive manufacturer marked National Apprenticeship Week by announcing the creation of five new apprenticeship roles .
The vacancies are being created by TMD Friction in a range of disciplines , including IT , maintenance and research and development .
The Hartlepool-based firm has a long history of recruiting apprentices and currently has more than 20 people working in training and development roles .
Alongside that , the company also has a proven track record of retaining apprentices in permanent , full-time roles once their education placements have been completed .
Martin Haswell , learning and development manager at TMD , is overseeing the recruitment of the five new apprentices .
