SUPERPOWERED SUPERLEC

Superlec Electrical Distributors has had a mammoth 2022 , culminating in a move to new bespoke warehouse and office facilities on Riverside Park , in Middlesbrough .

This landmark year is the result of a 10 year , three-phase investment plan aimed at expanding the business .
Phase one of the plan began in 2013 when the business launched its first e-commerce website and changed its name from Bilcourt to Superlec .
Phase two involved bringing in-house all of its associated web systems and development tasks so that reliance on third-party support was minimised .
With the third phase move now completed , the business finds itself perfectly configured for continued success .
“ We stock over 8000 product lines and we ’ d simply outgrown our original facilities within Cleveland Cable Company ’ s Middlesbrough HQ ,” said general manager Ian Richardson .
“ The Barton Road site contains 20,000 sq ft of warehousing capacity , 3,500 sq ft of office space , a custom packaging area , trade counter and transport management for our full fleet which includes three brand new electric delivery vehicles . For customers we can provide parking space for 35 cars .
“ To ensure a smooth transition to the new premises , we sought out additional team members in telesales , warehousing , transport and account management .
“ We have gone from a team of 30 to 40 and are now fully resourced with headroom for further expansion .
“ Some of this recruitment has been in the form of new hires , some has been achieved through promoting existing staff members from both Superlec and our parent company Cleveland Cable .”
When asked what impact sustained investment has had on Superlec , Ian continued : “ Well , in 2016 , before the name change , we were a £ 5m-a-year company , and that seemed to be the ceiling at that time .
“ After each phase of expansion there has been a marked difference in growth of turnover .”
“ We moved in September this year and the turnover has already increased by over 25 per cent , and the projected turnover is over £ 15m , so I would definitely say it ’ s been worth it .”
