BEST NEWCOMER
WINNER :
EMILY CLARK
( PD PORTS )
When an awards category has five finalists rather than the usual three , you know the competition is exceptional .
But that ’ s the impressive field from which PD Ports ’ Emily Clark emerged to clinch the Best Newcomer title .
And for Emily , who , after being offered an apprenticeship , is en route to becoming a chartered civil engineer and has been named as one to watch in Multimodal ’ s ’ 30 Under 30 ’ list , simply attending the awards was motivational in itself .
“ I wasn ’ t expecting to win after I saw the nomination videos because there were some amazing people on that shortlist ,” she said .
“ But I love the Tees Businesswomen Awards because it ’ s such a supportive environment and you feel like you ’ re surrounded by like-minded people .
“ It makes you feel like anything is possible . You see such inspiring role models every year – you never really think you can be up there with them and it ’ s just amazing to see such inspirational people all in one place at one time , because you can get lost in the muddle of everything .”
And as for Emily ’ s career plans ? “ At the moment I ’ m working towards my civil engineering degree , going on to my masters , then chartership , and progressing in the company as far as I can .
“ I think I knew it would be difficult and a lot of hard work , but I never thought the rewards would be as great as they are and the enjoyment that I get out of my job would be as much as it is .
“ Every day , it surprises me which bits I enjoy and what I move forward on to .”
