EV battery firm charging ahead with new facility

The UK ’ s largest planned Electric Vehicle ( EV ) battery recycling facility has selected Teesside to set up a multi-million-pound factory .

Global firm Altilium Metals would transform battery waste from more than 150,000 electric vehicles into “ Cathode Active Material ” – a key component of new batteries .
Its mega-recycling plant would create 100 to 200 high-value jobs by 2025 and hundreds more during its construction – with a projected 18-month build to get the facility up and running .
Altilium Metals recently secured £ 3m in government innovation funding to scale up its process to extract the metals from spent batteries , supporting an EV supply chain and circular economy .

Awards show girls what ’ s possible
Northern Skills Group , the training and apprenticeship arm of Middlesbrough College , has sponsored the Tees Businesswomen for the five years of its existence . Here Zoe Lewis , principal and chief executive of Middlesbrough College Group , reflects on the impact of the awards …

The Tees Businesswomen Awards are an incredible celebration of the female business leaders and female-led businesses that are blazing a trail for the region .

The awards are also a great opportunity to inspire young women who want to have as much impact in their own careers eg here on Teesside .
Our apprenticeship and training arm , Northern Skills , has worked with many female learners who have worked their way up from apprenticeship level into senior roles , or are building their dream careers in what would typically be male-dominated industries .
The awards offer a platform to showcase success stories that will go on to be the source of inspiration to so many – and I ’ d personally like to thank the team at Tees Business for making it possible .
Our sponsorship of the awards over the past five years demonstrates our own commitment to raising aspirations and helping all learners realise their potential .
You only have to look at the likes of Kira Coleman , a Middlesbrough College student who took home the coveted Student of the Year title at this year ’ s awards , to see the impact powerful role models can have . She ’ s a shining example of someone who ’ s turned their life around by investing in their future .
The awards have already made a huge impact on our region , sparking conversations , inspiring success and bringing about change . We ’ re proud to headline sponsor the awards each year and look forward to many more to come !
