Cable guys invest in e-fleet

Cleveland Cable Company has an ongoing commitment to delivering cables and cable accessories when and where their customers require .

To ensure this , the company operates and maintains more than 90 speciallyequipped vehicles across its UK branch network , ranging in size from small vans to 46-tonne , curtain-sided articulated trucks known as Tautliners .
As every delivery brings its own challenges , the fleet includes equipment that enables highly skilled staff to offload cargo in locations previously considered impossible .
One recent example required raising heavy duty cable drums several floors above street level via a HIAB crane , in the heart of central London , with disruption to traffic minimised by carrying out delivery during the early morning hours .
Increasingly , customers expect carbon-responsible methods of goods transportation , which has led Cleveland Cable to commission a sub-fleet of Maxus eDeliver 9 electric vans to handle smaller local deliveries .
These vehicles fill the gap left by decommissioned diesel and petrol vans , can be recharged using

existing infrastructure and offer builtin futureproofing against city centre congestion charges and green zone fees .
A hugely important part of getting any new van or wagon road-ready is the application of a livery kit , something that Cleveland Cable ’ s creative team places firmly at the centre of its public awareness and brand-carrying strategy .
The liveries must be able to withstand life on the road yet be applied by partner firms in limited downtime between jobs . Knowing how and when to rotate vehicles off the road , and how to make a vehicle eyecatching on the road , is a tricky balancing act requiring both departments remain in lockstep .
Sitting at the centre of this perfect storm of complex modern logistics , heavy goods and demanding customers is Cleveland Cable Company ’ s Transport Department , marshalled from its Middlesbrough head office by group transport manager Robert Stone .
“ At its core , Cleveland Cable has built a heritage over nearly 45 years of business selling high-quality goods and moving them where they need to be at the convenience of the customer ,” says Robert .
“ Every other concern , while still important , can only be considered once we ’ ve lived up to that expectation .”
