Steel River Consultants now delivering critical health and safety courses
Working within health and safety guidelines is a critical requirement for any business .
And making sure staff at all levels are fully briefed on their responsibilities and any potential risks is something all firms must prioritise .
Many businesses now look to outsource their workplace health and safety training , and Steel River Consultants ( SRC ) are now supplying that expertise on behalf of an increasing number of satisfied clients after launching a new service .
The Stockton-based firm decided to offer health and safety training as an additional service when an existing client requested details of companies who could potentially provide such resources .
SRC managing director Graham Tyerman said : “ Mark Hobbs , our approved trainer , has a proven track record in the delivery of safety training courses , and when he approached me to explore the possibility of providing this within Steel River Consultants , I jumped at the chance to offer additional services to our current and future client base .
“ The world of training is obviously a competitive market ,” continues Graham . “ But by offering a wide range of courses and the flexibility of in-company or in-house training , means that we can accommodate to clients ’ requirements .
“ Mark has just completed a UK-wide package of CDM ( construction design and management ) awareness and principal
50 | Tees Business designer training courses for a national housebuilder and has delivered accredited first aid awareness courses right across the different levels of training from CPR and AED awareness to the three-day first aid at work course .
“ I see the training arm of the business as being a real growth opportunity and look forward to welcoming current and future clients on our courses .”
SRC was established in 2010 and in addition to its home base on Preston Farm Industrial Estate , it has offices in Glasgow and Derby .
The company offers wide-ranging health and safety consultancy support spanning many industrial sectors , including housebuilders .
Safety advisor Mark , who has more than a decade of training experience , travels far and wide across the UK sharing his expertise .
He believes flexibility is key , saying : “ We can currently provide a range of occupational safety-related training courses to suit employees at all levels of their employment across various industries from new , entry level workers to senior management .
“ And we can provide that training to suit them , whether that be at their own location or at one of ours , and at times that fit their schedule .
“ For example , if the client requires their night shift training , then that ’ s not a problem , we can do that . Our current range of training includes accredited or approved courses and also bespoke training to suit a client ’ s needs .”
Depending on the type of training course SRC is delivering , the company can train up to 12 staff members on its accredited range of first aid and asbestos awareness training courses , and up to 20 on its IOSH ( Institution of Occupational Safety and Health ) approved courses such as IOSH managing safely .
“ With any bespoke training we provide , we would ideally prefer to limit the number of trainees to 12 to give a better tutor-totrainee ratio ,” explains Mark .
“ However , if the client requires larger numbers to be trained at a time , then we can negotiate this to suit both ourselves and the client .
“ However , the most important thing is that the trainees still get the same level and standard of training they require . “ Depending on the training we ’ re providing , we always try to make it as interactive as possible , whether it ’ s practical first aid , CPR , and defibrillator use or more classroom-based training .
“ As much as practically possible we always endeavour to get the trainees working as a team , talking and thinking together to create workable ideas and resolve solutions .”
