Redcar engineers boosted by investment
An expanding Tees-based electrical engineering company is taking on new engineers and its first apprentice as it wins a growing number of contracts locally and around the UK .
Intek Electrical Engineering was set up just over a year ago but is already realising its ambitious sales forecasts and has now secured a five-figure investment from UKSE , the Tata Steel business support subsidiary , to support its growth plans .
The latest additions to the current nine-strong team are engineer Chris Moore , of Stockton , and 17-year-old apprentice Cooper Knowles , of Ingleby Barwick .
Intek is based in UKSE ’ s Innovation Centre on Redcar ’ s Kirkleatham Business Park .
NETA Training to bring expertise to college
Employers looking to train and upskill their workforce will soon be able to access further expertise on their doorstep , as NETA Training expands its services into Redcar and Cleveland .
The Teesside engineering training provider will now deliver commercial training at Redcar and Cleveland College , alongside its sites in Stockton , in a move to equip more people with the skills to benefit from jobs coming to the area .
NETA ’ s commercial training manager , Sean Johnston , said : “ With inward investment from those leading the way in clean and renewable energy , all that is going on at Teesworks , and the freeport , this is an exciting time for the Tees Valley .”
NETA currently delivers commercial training from its sites on Pennine Avenue and Lustrum Industrial Estate in Stockton . Early this year it also launched a new

satellite centre at the Materials Processing Institute in South Bank , to help meet the increasing demand for scaffolding training .
Now NETA at Redcar and Cleveland College will enhance the centre ’ s offer with courses including health and safety , NEBOSH , confined spaces and rope access , as well as exploring opportunities in the likes of carbon capture , green energy and environmental solutions .
The team will also continue to build on the college ’ s work with the employment hubs to deliver bespoke employer-led programmes such as demolition , jet washing and nondestructive testing .
Both NETA Training and Redcar and Cleveland College are part of the Education Training Collective ( Etc .), which also comprises Bede Sixth Form College , Stockton Riverside College and The Skills Academy in Billingham .
Enabling works completed for Tees offshore wind developments
A civil engineering company has delivered the enabling works package for two major offshore wind energy developments in the region .
Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK was appointed to prepare a site for the construction of the onshore converter station platforms for Sofia Offshore Wind Farm and Dogger Bank C , the third phase of the Dogger Bank Wind Farm , situated near Redcar .
Works carried out included providing load-bearing working platforms for the converter stations , two new road access points , welfare and storage areas and a drainage system .
Up to 30 workers were on site at any one time as the work was completed on schedule .

Work starts to transform Duncan Place
Work has started on the £ 2.2m scheme to transform Duncan Place in Loftus .
The historic building , where the youth and community centre is currently located , will be renovated and extended to create a facility for the town , which will bring together several council services within one improved building .
This includes the relocation of Loftus library into a new extension of the building , with a small refreshment counter , alongside revitalised spaces for youth and family activities , including a brand-new community hall .
Middlesbrough firm WB Construction is carrying out the work and preparations began on-site at the end of August .
National operator signs Regent deal
A national cinema operator has signed a deal to run the Regent in Redcar .
Redcar and Cleveland Council has reached an agreement with Merlin Cinemas , which runs cinemas in coastal towns across the UK .
After a period of uncertainty for cinemas , blockbusters such as Top Gun : Maverick and Jurassic World saw record-breaking numbers return to the Box Office .
The Regent is home to three screen rooms with state-of-the-art audio-visual technology , and the auditoria include allocated disabled spaces .
Its second-floor screen room and cafébar , with panoramic views of the stunning coastline and a sheltered terrace , are all fully accessible via a lift .
