GOING FOR GREEN !
Teesport operator aims to play key role in the green industrial revolution
As one of the oldest companies in the North-East of England , PD Ports is a stalwart figure in the industrial landscape , heritage and future prospects of the Tees Valley .
Established over 169 years ago , the port operator has endured many periods of drastic change , none less so than the collapse of the SSI Steelworks in 2015 , which inspired a new chapter of diversification .
Subsequently , PD Ports has continued its journey of transformational change and now operates as one of the country ’ s premier ports and logistics businesses , with multiple national accolades , including Maritime UK ’ s Business of the Year for 2022 .
It is , however , the challenge that lies ahead that CEO Frans Calje OBE is the keenest to grasp .
The environmental effects of industry can be seen in most corners of the world and now , as warnings of rising temperatures and extreme weather seem ever more present across the media , the green industrial revolution is fast approaching over the horizon .
With pressure mounting on businesses and society alike to reduce their carbon emissions and increase efficiencies , PD Ports is drawing on both old and new technologies in order to reach its own ambitious decarbonisation targets .
“ We want to be at the forefront of the green industrial revolution ,” said Frans . “ We are striving to become a more sustainable and greener port , utilising both existing and innovative technologies to drastically reduce our carbon emissions .
“ Established in 1852 , there is a real heritage
