A family freight firm which holds its own against the big players is celebrating consecutive awards wins .
After another encouraging year , and despite the demands of operating during the pandemic , Hartlepool ’ s Hogg Global Logistics is now the proud holder of the Best Small Business 2021 prize .
Delighted founder and MD Lyndsay Hogg said : “ We won Best New Business last year and I was a little sad our reign was coming to an end , so the fact we can be on this journey again with all the businesswomen means the absolute world .”
Hogg Global Logistics specialises in forwarding freight around the globe by air , road and rail , couriers and sea .
Securing lucrative contracts from players in the multi-national sector , Hogg also offers storage , marine insurance , DG goods training , customs clearance , container loading and unloading and free advice on customs and international trade matters .
A family team of five led by MD and single mum Lyndsay , the company smashed its £ 500,000 turnover target this year .
One of its strengths is being contactable at all hours , as many customers work in different time zones .
Lyndsay and the team also support many women ’ s charities in the region and give inspirational speeches to the next generation of youngsters about their industry .
Lyndsay said : “ I want to encourage other women to do this . It means so much to me and my family and all the other women around us – it will drive me forward to help them be the best they can be .”

1ST FOR EPA
Middlesbrough-based 1st for EPA work throughout England , championing apprenticeships through simplified assessment .
Guidance packs , provider training and detailed feedback are all part of their service offering .
In March 2020 , the fledgling company gained a place on the ESFA ’ s Register of EPAOs and now assesses nine apprenticeship standards , from level three ( GCSE level ) through to level six ( degree level ).
The standards they assess include marketing , digital , HR , PR and business admin .
1st for EPA is women-owned and women-led , and 100 per cent of senior roles are held by females . Seven months into year two of trading , company turnover has reached six figures .
THE PROTECTION PARENT
The Protection Parent is an independent insurance brokerage company owned by Teesside mum Karla Edwards .
In just a year , the company ’ s figures have been chart-topping and Karla has created jobs for three women , including an apprentice .
Alongside The Protection Parent , Karla hosts a podcast called Money Making Mothers , showcasing women who are forging careers as well as being mums .
Karla ’ s aim is to create a network where she can combine The Protection Parent and the podcast to advocate women to work from home with their families while building a successful future for themselves .
